BROWARD'S CHIEF JUDGE IS STILL GOING STRONG, BUT FOES WONDER WHERE DALE ROSS, POWERLIFTER, KEEPS FIRM GRIP ON JOB DESPITE ADMITTED 'ABILITY TO IRRITATE'
I have a copy of the above-titled 1/5/1996 profile of Chief Judge Dale Ross by Dan Christensen of the Miami DBR. I'm trying to work out a deal with the DBR to publish it on JAABLOG in its entirety, but it might not happen as I'm saving up my dough for other stuff coming up (they initially wanted $645.00). In any event, it's a hoot and VERY RELEVANT to what's going on in our courthouse in 2006. If you want to see it, please email me at wgelin@yahoo.com.
Some highlights:
-Judge Greene on the C.J.'s inflexible routine "KFC on Friday, Barbecue on Saturday".
-The C.J.'s Ohio origins and climb from hard working kid to his present position.
-Discussion as to whether he used steroids for lifting ("...I never inhaled").
-A description of what sounds like a red-blooded American kid college prank over a keg of beer that resulted in a brush with the law
-Al Schreiber quoted as saying the C.J.'s power is all "smoke and mirrors".
-Descriptions of the C.J. as the "Richard Nixon" of the judiciary, an "autocrat" ruling through "fiat and fear", rewarding supporters and punishing foes (addresses re-assignment issue for challengers), while masterfully ingratiating himself with political heavy-weights.
-Heavy praise from now Fed Judges Dimitriouleas and Judge Lynch and others re his character and fiscal conservatism
-Discusses judicial concerns over his perceived love affair with the C.J. position and the problems with a C.J. "for life" (and this was 1996!) and the County Court Judges unwavering support of him due to his influence over judicial advancement
-Discusses his role in starting ROC and DVU Courts
-Discusses some old problems he had exceeding his authority
-Etc.
It's a quick read that I recommend to anyone who wonders how come things are so weird here compared to PB and Miami.
