As an aside, my full comment to the Herald focused on the lack of leadership in Broward County. The anger and resentment in Broward is leading to complaints in Tallahassee because there is no remedy or redress at the local level. Our judges are not held accountable by judicial administration, the same judicial administration that sets the tone and the example as to how judges should behave. While we have mostly good judges, the fact that the outlyers are given carte blanche and never called to task, no matter how weird, destructive, or dysfunctional their behavior, results in the complete undermining of the reputation of Broward's judiciary (IMHO, of course).
Bill

Good Work Bill. Outlyers are just that and should not upset the median, mode, and norm.
98.6 percent of the judiciary are far better than par for the course. I'm just curious as to what remedy is being sought. Obviously, that is a normal number.
Holy Moses. We agree.
I think one can have empathy for what Judge Aleman is going through right now and still agree on the law and judicial canons.
But, I'll never forget how saddened I was when Adam was in the joint. Whomever posted they thought that was an appropriate punishment is incorrect. That is an absolute, stop the presses, remedy even assuming there was some kind of contempt. Which I don't think there was based on the totality of the circumstances.
Having been threatened with jail once (ONCE) as an APD from a Dade judge doing strike force, I know exactly how that feels. Fortunately, a chief assistant went with me to another judge and the matter was remedied almost instantaneously. The Dade judge (who I really admired actually) recused himself promptly and I got a new trial.
Off to the Pleasure Dome.
Thanks.
(great that the blog got a plug from a great paper and reporter)
Chicken Salad.
I am not going to get into the Aleman debate she was always respectful and courteous to deal with.
Can I ask who do you "hear" these things from in Tallahassee? It seems like you always drop something in about concern in Tallahassee to drive home the seriousness of your point. While I am not the end all be all of information from the North you certainly seem to be privy to things no one else seems to be aware of. Also, when you talk about concern in Tallahassee who/what are you referring, Legislature, Crist, Supreme Court, Fl Bar, bar staff at Late Night Library or Guthrie's? What are they looking to do about it. It just seems you add this to add more drama to the post.
Mike, with all due respect, I constantly read your posts of defending any action. Is not surprising that people think that you are setting yourself up for a general masters position. But honestly, again with respect, have you ever tried a case in Broward county?
Sure have EJ, over almost 10 years I have tried numerous crimianl and civil cases in the tri-county area. 2 come to mind before Aleman, both losses, but I felt she gave me a fair trial.
Why dont you tell me where I defended anyone in my last post. I just said I wasnt going to comment on the allegations as I had no problems with Aleman. All I did was question where Bill gets Tallahassee information.
In my other post about Katz all I said was if what I heard were true his actions were quite disrespectful to the Court. I also opined that I could be wrong and if so, please let me know the true story.
Two other quick points, I have no interest in being a GM or Judge. Also, I dont really care what people think of me and/or my opinions, hence that is why I have the spine to put my name on everything I post.
Is it politically incorrect to notice that all of the recent "highly" visible Broward judicial controversies seem to have involved female judges?
Aleman, O'connor, Holmes.
Is possible cheauvanistic behavior by the male attorneys before these judges bringing out the worst in these ladies? Or simple coincidence? Is the misconduct of male judges going un(der)reported?
Naughty me if such musings aren't PC nowadays.
Judge Wapner may have a point. But maybe it's a chicken or the egg type of argument? Maybe some female judges, after having to work twice as hard to break the glass ceiling, feel they have to come off as super tough right off the bat, rigid rules, etc., which then exacerbates already existing chauvinist tendencies in some less than enlightened attys? I don't know; to be fair, Aleman always was respectful to me (especially after the O'Connor Jury Duty debacle), and Holmes and I have only had one minor tiff that was quickly worked out in the defendant's favor. And, yes, some male judges have been getting away with murder because people were afraid to call them out for whatever reason (my old pal Ross was probably the most disrespectful person I ever saw on the bench). Anyway, just a quick thought I had, please don't nuke me if I have made some horribly chauvanistic mistake with this comment.
Come on guys- there are some female judges-ok one!- that really puts out-I mean really puts herself out there for several defense attorneys and even a prosecutor who was assigned to her division. (Guess Who) Talk about the appearance of impropriety! By the way O conner committed her evil acts before she was a judge- granted she continued while on the bench! Read the comments from the sun-sentinal, do you think there is any faith in any of the broward judges?
I was in front of that Judge Seidman. He is not a woman and was very unfair to everyone and his courtroom was too cold. Now he is doing traffic hearings. Doesn't he walk around armed to the hilt also?
Bill,
Just in case you didnt see my last question in reply to your statement of
"The anger and resentment in Broward is leading to complaints in Tallahassee because there is no remedy or redress at the local level"
So who in Tallahassee is complaining? Who is complaning to whom? In the past including this statement you allude to "Tallahassee" being unhappy with things in the Broward Judiciary, who specifically are you talking about?
Sorry Mike, I should have been clearer - the reporter asked me why there are so many JQC complaints coming out of Broward, unlike other counties. In fact, although I did not re-read it before this comment, I think the article is pretty clear in discussing the rash of problems with Broward and the JQC. My point was that since there is no accountability at the local level, folks here have no choice but to complain to Tallahassee.
the arms of the prince of darkness have no boundaries - she is a pawn in satan's army and hides under the veil of her cult - when she prays to her god, don't be folled, it is a direct line to Lucifer
Empathy for her. How, why, she is the antithesis of what any judge should aspire to be. You can thank the Bush brothers for what is unquestionably the worst appointment to the circuit bench that I have ever encountered. She is a disgrace to the judiciary. Just for clarity she is the antichrist that used to sit in 7900, Satan's sucubis, Cheryl Aleman I couldn't figure out how to put the character over the e in her name just the way she forgot it existed at election time. She should be thankful that she isn't judged by the god she prays to.
bill,
thanks for clearing that, makes sense.
congrats on being quoted, im serious with that, solid take on the situation
mike
Excellent question. Sympathy for the Devil. Good enough for the Stones, good enough for me.
I've actually read Revelations by the way. AFTER, seeing The Omen way back when. And, read all the books back in the day. Interestingly, the rise of the Anti-Christ comes from the ashes of politics.
Why Empathy? Because, despite her illegal rulings, terrible acts against Adam, horrific threats of contempt against great APD's, all of which I know violate the law and Judicial Canon's on ethics, as I've stated, I can still have empathy for what she is going through. Simply because if you place yourself in her shoes, without heels, one who is a devout Christian would probably question her own motives, feel bad, and realize the errors of her ways. Therefore, I feel bad for the PROCESS she is going through. That is not to be confused with the fact she must go through it. Further, she was always kind to me. Thus, empathy, not agreement with policy at all. But, I got to know her a bit. Sorry.
Kindness, does not however, vitiate any wrongdoings which as I've stated, have NO rational counterarguments. Furthermore, if she is reading this post, or any other judges are, I call 'em as I see them. As do others. Wish y'all would talk.
I agree en toto with the JQC complaint. Look at my posts on the initial complaint thread please.
As to the injection of religion into the argument, I must say the irony of kali's post and 666's is hysterical. But, the point of the posters is that religion should play no part in the judiciary. I totally agree. For those who loathe anonymity, that is probably the only way we would have seen the humor in that.
Yet, I make the same dig at the top of my thread. Why? Empathy. And irony. And hope that her religion guides her on a path that is proper.
Jesse "The Body" Ventura said it best, "Religion is a crutch for weak minded people." I don't know if I agree with that at all. I just know there is no room for it on the Bench.
Bill quoted from that Dade Judge. I thought it was eloquent and wise. It has had a tremendous effect on me at least.
I've also stopped writing anonymously although I believe in it. I do so because a mentor of mine asked me to. That same mentor, well, I'm not sure his spinal column touches his brain stem, but, I still love the guy. I should have said in the Star Chamber... "No except blank." He's a good man. Just a joke in case you ever figure out how to use a mouse. He does excellent work in the courthouse. No dead air there.
As to Aleman, I'm surprised there aren't trumpets and (SATAN I hate this word) kudos for Bill. I've always maintained and feared, that his messages would be lost in translation b/c of a lot of harsh arguments he makes. Has anyone even thanked him really? I did. Always have and will when appropriate. Also called him a dick, and for that I apologize despite I know he falsely attributed a statement to me.
Empathy is always impt.
I am a disable vet that suffers from PTSD and I have been locked up with no bond. I needed to get the treatment for this mental condition and I can't get that treatment because of Judge Aleman. Something really needs to be done about her. Some people that get locked up have mental conditions that cause them to react and get in trouble. If we are locked up it is not helping us. We need to be treated for our problem not locked away!
You wrote, "She should be thankful that she isn't judged by the god she prays to."
Does that mean you're an Atheist? If so, you don't exist.
What is your quest?
Who is your favorite judge?
What is your favorite colour?
Brian
have you heard about the agnostic insomniac dyslexic?
he stays up all night wondering whether or not there is a dog.
(thanks to brian cavanaugh)
Does anyone know what the impact of this complaint will be? Will the JQC actually recommend removal, like they stated at the end of the complaint? What are different possible outcomes?
That was excellent. Case and point I would think on anonymity.
Have you heard of the great agitator and contrarian who is the walking definition of an oxymoron?
He is from the right wing of the Republican Party trying to pass a bill.
(Thanks to a strong liberal bias in the media)
Thank God.
I say odds are this matter gets dragged out with the JQC for a year or so. In that time, Aleman falls under the radar in civil. David Bogenschutz will blow some holes in the complaint and the JQC at worst gives an anti climatic slap on the wrist at worst.
nice orange lipstick that she wears, what a clown, i hope she gets what she deserves
