Like old time Judges, DeLuca rides his Circuit

Recently, there was an accident which involved some type of arrest.  The defendant, who weigh's 350 lbs was injured in the accident and is in the medical unit.  Because of his injuries, he is not being given clearance to go to magistrate.  In addition, due to his injuries and size, its very difficult for him to be transported for magistrate.  This morning, Judge Steve DeLuca is handling the magistrates downtown.

Being one of the bright minds on the bench, he requested that a state attorney, a public defender and a court reporter meet him at the Pompano facility. Steve suggested that he would go in with them and hold the hearing for the guy.  Afterwards, he will head to his courtroom in the North satellite and carry on with his docket.

This is a good example of a Judge making an extraordinary effort to ensure that everyone receive's justice.  It reminds me of why Judges got the name circuit judges because they used to ride the circuit to bring justice to the people scattered throughout the county.  Judge DeLuca did just that.

Wasn't this guy also a cop in the old days? I find former LEO's to be graeat judges. Like Williams, and Imperato on the small time stuff. Unlike former prosecutors, they know the realities of life on the street, and they tend to rule fairly.

I never knew how the circuit name came about either. Cool.

Steve is a good example of what judges should be in this town. He's outside the rotted core of judicial politics and proves himself to be a man of the people, for the people and true to himself. Ross could learn allot form this man.

Steve was a cop, a criminal defense attorney, a civil lawyer, and a prosecutor. He was the lead prosecutor in division FG years ago, and he and I had many trials together. A totally professional prosecutor and great person. He should be chief judge so he could lead by example.

As for the last anonymous comment, you sound like a child, grow up.

This is what you would expect from a well rounded individual like Deluca. He's introspective and considerate unlike allot of the other megalomaniacs that think its all about them and then meed out their twisted version of justice from the bench. People are beginning to take notice though. The seed is finally being separated from the chaff. More and More of the good judges aren't going to sit back and watch as Ross and friends destroy the public confidence and honor we have for our judiciary while they continue to treat Broward like its theirs to divide amongst themselves. You just watch. The fine people will step forward.

I think its already started. Gardiner is a good change. She'll be open to new ideas and probably institute rotation among the judges. That's a great step to starting behavioral modification of these clowns.

I was assigned to him when he was at the south satellite in Hollywood. Simply one of the most professional, competent and dedicated judges. I honestly felt like I became a better attorney after having been in front of him for five months.
