Through Technology, times really have changed........

In 1987, Daniel Wan was beaten up outside of a bar in Broward County, Fla., by assailants who called him "faggot", repeatedly kicking him and throwing him up against a moving car. He died from his injuries two days later. At a pre-trial hearing, Circuit Judge Daniel Futch jokingly asked the prosecuting attorney, "That's a crime now, to beat up a homosexual?" The prosecutor responded, "Yes, sir. And it's a crime to kill them." To that, the judge quipped, "Times really have changed." Although the judge apologized and maintained he was kidding, he was removed from the case.               (Salon News Reel)

Yes, the Times have changed.  No longer does any type of outrageous judicial expression or action go unchallenged, thanks to technology.  Today, with instant media coverage, next day transcripts, and audio and video recordings on demand, everything can easily be presented for review.  Courtroom 1001.

When judges' positions and pensions are held to the fire enough times, this unacceptable behavior can come to a halt once and for all. It'll take the combined effort of all concerned to bring this about. Keep posting transcripts and when it comes time for reelection revive the subject so the public is aware of this. Maybe better people at last will become interested in filling the positions of judges who can't keep their bias and prejudices to themselves and do their jobs faithfully.

Remember how he would put the jury in the box, witness on the stand, court reporter seated, defendant seated with or without lawyer, state and wait for the party to show up without saying a word. Then when that party would show up, start questioning that person in front of all. Can you imagine if it was the defense attorney who was late, what was probably going through the poor defendants mind being in that courtroom. How about if the defendant was represented by a public defender because of being indigent. Glad for the defendant that this sort of practice has stopped.

Great picture. There are a few judges that are probably taking behavioral modification courses as a result instead of diversity training.

So, what's the chance that FACDL will succeed in the quo warranto action? 2d Circuit Judge issued a show cause order requiring the governor, regional counsel, and other respondents to respond by mid November. So far, I can't find any coverage on the issue outside the various blogs and the FACDL website. Have any of the respondents made any public comments??

Howard Scheinberg and Ken Padowitz and they both rose through the ranks of the state attys office thanks to dan futch, so they never said anything about his misogynism, his anti-semitism, his anti african american and anti hispanic views and comments. And futch was really good buddies with ralph ray who was chief asst state atty to satz for many years. satz never said or did anything, he tolerated the bigotry.

I don't think futch was anyone's mentor, other then the previously mentioned prosecutors who rose through the ranks thanks to him. However most if not all of the judges that were around when he retired (and when ross let him back for a while as a senior retired judge) knew what he was all about and not one said a word and ditto for the defense attorneys. Let me give a list of some Futch tolerators: Satz and many in the state attys office, debbie zimet, Speiser, Moe, Ziedwig, dale ross, charlie greene, stan kaplan, charlie kaplan, Vic Tobin, mel grossman, Sam Halperin, Randy Haas, paul backman, bob diaz, bob zack, yes many jewish attys and judges tolerated his bigotry. one atty i do remember not putting up with futch's crap was ed malavenda. has anyone seen ed lately? speaking of attys no one has seen lately, has anyone seen adam balkan lately? balkan ran against satz in 2000, lost and got blacklisted out of broward county. there's alot of crap that's been going on in this county for a real long time. i'll tell you why. becasue there is an unwritten rule in this county started by our illustrious black robers: you don't run against a sitting judge. that rule doesn't exist in dade county. it's time for some serious people with some serious money (mancini and malnick need not apply) and a conscience to shake things up.
ps...skip campbell is part of the problem and not a solution.

You pose the questions but you know the answers. I'll go along with your setup only because the story needs to be told to those who don't know it or forget about it. Here it is: Jesse Tafero is the only defendant in Broward County to have a death sentence imposed (his head caught on fire in the electric chair) It was an election year.
The prosecutor was ASA Mike Satz. Who represented the flip co-defendant, Walter Rhodes? Ralph Ray and the judge was?.....That's right M. Daniel Futch.
Satz wins the election; Ralph Ray becomes his chief assistant. Futch use to tell everyone he not a racist and that he hired Chuck Morton. Everyone just laughed at his jokes. hahaha.
I am going to write a book about this place and it will be an overnight bestseller.
PS Walter Rhodes got let out of prison a while ago and is around somewhere.
PSS third defendant Sonia Jacobs got let out after new trial on 3.850 satz agreed to murder 2 time served. They made a movie about her case. Didn't make satz look too good.
PSSS How much does mike satz have in his warchest?
PSSSS For all you death penalty is racist types, Jesse Tafero was white
PSSSS Is there such a thing as PSSSS?
