“People made those arguments for the last 40 years, as long as the commission has been around,” Ross said. “People are defending — they have to come up with a defense...

(FYI - Michael Tein is a former US Atty who successfully defended Eileen O'Connor against the JQC over claims she failed to disclose on her judicial application complaints of religious and racial discrimination stemming from her days as a supervisor in the Southern District US Atty's Office)

In a number of cases where probable cause isn’t found, commission members will visit the judge to deliver a private reprimand, referred to as a “dim view,” where they will discuss why the judge’s actions were wrong and what repercussions the judge could face if these actions are repeated.
“We have some trials coming up in Broward County court. We have several of these dim views that are scheduled relatively soon in Broward. We have judges who we had dim views with who have quit,” Tate said. “There’s been significant changes: The chief judge resigned [as chief], we had an election and had a new chief judge elected who will hopefully bring some stability to that circuit.”
"The JQC files formal charges against an average of five judges a year. Since its inception (in 1966), the JQC has formally charged 154 judges — 25 of them in Broward."

Rothschild is a class act. Can you imagine Aleman or O'connor presiding over important civic matters? The smart judges go civil (voluntarily) and the poor get stuck with the insecure, show off types.
What a contradiction. If commission members are conducting private reprimands to explain to a judge why their actions were "wrong", THEN THEY HAVE DONE SOMETHING WRONG!!!!!
I feel I have every right as a voting tax payer to know every complaint, every outcome, not just the one's the commission can't get away with hiding.
I have a right to make educated decisions on elected judges.
Why the dim "dumb" meeting? If we are talking about a public official, should'nt everything be out for all to see? Does not the public have a right to know all so they can make a fully informed decision as to who they are going to cast their vote for? How about a line sheet handed out at the polling place that lists everything? Bet that would change the behavior from not only the judges but all elected officials as well. Eliminate the secret society, what is done in darkness will be seen in light.

Anyone here eat at Feby's Fishery in Wilmington, Delaware, on February 15? If so, did you happen to overhear Superior Court Judge Peggy Ableman's chit-chat with her husband over dinner?
One witness said she told her husband that "she would get the last word" and that the man on trial before her "would get the death penalty."
So much for a neutral and detached magistrate in that case. The defendant was subsequently sentenced to death.
Lawyers for the man filed a motion for a new trial claming judicial bias. Judge Ableman would have none of it. Her recollection of the dinner conversation was that she was disappointed in the perfomance of defense counsel. Listen to part of her ruling:
"Defendant has not cited, nor am I aware of, any authority that would prevent a judge from telling her husband, `An attorney has so botched the death penalty case that I am trying that I am going to be stuck with a ten-two jury vote to execute a juvenile." Temper, temper, judge.
The defendant will not be executed, thanks not to the judge, but to the Roper decision declaring it unlawful to execute juveniles. The defendant was seventeen at the time of the murders for which he was tried.
The judge's remarks were overheard after the jury's verdict of guilty, but before a verdict on the penalty phase.
Sounds like a biased jurist to me. And, of course, her observations of defense counsel's performance will be pivotal in the inevitable habeas corpus petition for ineffective assistance of counsel.
Judge Ableman now finds herself in a tough spot. She has all but declared defense counsel ineffective. Question: Will she appear voluntarily at that habeas hearing to support the claim of ineffectiveness? Or will she try to quash the subpoena claiming judicial privilege?
Just think about it Howard, if not for Big Al what would you be doing, he saved you and helped you. How do you pay him back, (watch out for those bus tires al) , You of all people Howard should not be so judgmental of others/ Everyone has forgiven your past indescetions and given you another chance. But you cant , you want others heads to make you look better or taller ? And you Bruce you got another chance but will not forgive and let Judge A get a break. But You should look in the mirror standing next to Howard (let him stand on a stool) and see is you should throw stones in your glass house.

I think that Judge Aleman is so cranky as a result of unresolved anger issues about that Kansas girl's house falling on her sister.
Also, why isn't she charged by the JQC with turning SConway into a newt? Did he get better?
Fashion Alert from the Cheryl Aleman trial. All the Who's Thats and hacks are on their way into the courtroom and by G-d the fashionistas are having a field day.
Oh wait, I think I see one of the outspoken attorneys who has railed against Judge Aleman coming into the courtroom. Yes, it is Sean Conway. He appears relaxed and is waving to the throngs of spectators.
I have been advised he is wearing that same suit he always wear, which I hear was designed by and courtesy of the Goodwill Thrift Shop. Also, he is carrying a man-purse of some kind. I'm being told that is a specialty design by Fruity Menswear and Accessories.
And, oh my, what a fashion faux paux by Mr. Conway. There appears to be a deflated red balloon stuck to his shoe. I don't know (nor do I want to know) what kind of adhesive is keeping it attached to him.

I have it on good authority that the only reason that the ADJ is testifying as a character witness for Judge Aleman is because he owes her for helping him retrieve his lost Palm Treo (you know, the one with all the Rhinestones) from the statue of Napoleon Broward. Unfortuantely, there were no stepstools in the courthouse high enough for him to reach the dangling Treo with those short arms.
Also, he strategized that if he helps keep Aleman on the bench, everyone will continue to focus on her antics rather than his abhorrent behavior.
'dim wit views' serve no point unless the reprimand is published, promulgated, and the sanctioned party identified. Keep on truckin' 17th.
