ALL DOCUMENTS JQC v. ALEMAN:
http://www.floridasupremecourt.org/pub_info/summaries/briefs/07/07-198/index.html
"The panel concludes that Judge Aleman's conduct involving her denial of the motions for disqualifications without giving counsel a reasonable time to prepare the motions in writing and in threatening contempt by announcing entry of an order to show cause and then refusing to vacate the order to show cause constituted conduct which was arrogant, discourteous, and impatient to the lawyers appearing before her ... She acted in a manner that erodes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary." (p. 26)
SENTINEL:

"The panel also recommended that Alemán pay for the cost of the proceedings.
But Brooke Kennerly, executive director of the commission, said that would only be a fraction of the $87,570 so far tallied to try Alemán's case."

I knew she should have called the ADJ as a character witness.
So much for the mere disagreement with legal rulings garbage defense. That was a stretch, even for Bogenschutz.
Her problem emanated from her own inability to realize that the JQC (is) the appropriate body to hear all counts. "One must be chary of words because they turn into cages."
Hopefully the Supreme Court will up the penalty. Why should she be allowed to go to trial and lose and not get sentenced ten times as hard than if she took a plea? That's the way all other defendants get it in Broward, so why not her? Fair's fair? Hardly. I don't care if she has to pay 25 grand for the costs of the prosecution. She didn't take an offer, displayed "no remorse" or personal responsibility, and now the Supreme Court should reject the recommendation and remove her. Everyone knows the prosecutor only touched the tip of the iceberg anyway. She was bad news in criminal and she should get the ax.
Try being a little more accommodating next time, Cheryl. Take a chill pill and remember everyone has limits.
Does this mean she can switch medications now?
It's already Cannorozzi against O'Connor, so who is going to step up to the plate and run Aleman out of town? Somebody from Dade I would guess.
Perlman scores big. She's on a tear. Did anyone see the editorial in the Sentinel on Saturday regarding the 12 year olds case? Quite a pat on the back.
What a great lawyer and pillar of virtue in the slime pit we all call home. She should run. With her record of achievement and voter friendly name she could clean up in the condos.
I hope David has already apologized to her. I understand its anything for a buck or political clout around here but that was really going too far in my opinion.
I don't know of anyone that says she's a breeze, but after that gripping read it looks like she put her foot in her own mouth.
Hey Vic - would this have happened if the Dale gang was still in power? Hmmmmmm
ALEMAN THE NEW FULL TIME MAGISTRATE JUDGE?
DON'T MESS WITH ANA - EVER!!!
Don't know if this circuit could have taken much more of Dale's Daley Doses. But this just goes to show that we still have some good judges left!
Some people say this was going to happen to send a message to the wayward Broward judiciary. I don't think so. You'd have to really be clueless to behave as she did. Maybe Garcia Wood will wake up but the others are smart enough to know you screw 'em with a smile. Expect a more sophisticated Aleman next time, that's all.
Couldn't have happened to a more deserving judge. Well, maybe one.
Poor Larry Marin. His faith in the system must really be shaken. Let's hope he doesn't find out tonight there's no Santa Claus, or that George Bush had more than Saddam in mind when he went to Iraq. Might push him over the edge.
I like the footnote in the opinion when Raticoff said she was going to kill their guy.
Huge victory. How could Brannon's opinion/diagnosis be so far from their ruling?
Can she appeal this decision? How much will she have to pay? Does anyone know?
She really must have come off real well. That look she gets when she's exasperated !!
Her supporters will probably raise the cash for her. Isn't that always the way in this type of deal?
There's a million reasons why.
NO MORE FREE LUNCHES ANYWHERE FOR 1 YEAR
Supporters?
Jim and Tammy Fay Baker.
I'd like to know how the Bar can continue to prosecute Mr. Conway now that the JQC has ruled against her. He says evil unfair witch, they say arrogant impatient discourteous. Tomatoe or tomatow what's the big whoop? It seems fairly disingenuous of them to torment a smart young lawyer who has the courage to speak out for his client when he catches her doing something everyone would agree was likely against the rules of criminal procedure. In fact she stopped doing it after he blog cured her, if I remember correctly. Now they are going to push on him with a straight face because he had the balls to sign his name to his complaint? Highly stupid in my opinion, unless this is just more local judicial politics stinking up the justice system in Broward. The Broward bar grievance committee filed the charges on him, not Tallahassee, right? The same Bar honoring Ross and company with a super deluxe luncheon for all his service when he resigned in the wake of the judicial disgrace/meltdown that has never been seen anywhere in this country in a big city, right? They never honored other Chief judges, but he gets honored? I don't know but it seems maybe the Broward Bar is working against Sean at the behest of others even as the JQC calls her out just like he did. It doesn't matter though. Tallahasse will clear him, or the Feds. One thing's for sure, until a new judge untainted by the backroom Broward years takes the helm, it will always be up to outside forces like Tallahasse or the feds to clean up Broward.
Oops! I just don't know what came over me. I'm polite to everyone else.
How come Seidman didn't testify for her as a character witness? He was listed but not called. He could have saved her for sure.
"In a manner that erodes public confidence". Gee, Mike, could they be talking about Cheryl Aleman?
Where was Seidman when he could have been helpful?
Now that her chances of judicial advancement are Kaput, maybe she can go on "Dancing with the Stars." She's way too thin to be on "The Biggest Loser."
Aleman did her best to try and wriggle off the hook, for her unprofessional behavior. Her bullsh*t arguments just couldn't pull the wool over the eyes of the panel.
She joins Oliphant and Jenne in the "couldn't you have been a little trickier, David?" fan club.
"Now that her chances of judicial advancement are Kaput, maybe she can go on "Dancing with the Stars." She's way too thin to be on "The Biggest Loser."
No. She should get her own cooking show. Call it "How to make good food taste like Dirt."
"Now that her chances of judicial advancement are Kaput, maybe she can go on "Dancing with the Stars." She's way too thin to be on "The Biggest Loser."
She should go on American Idol and be the mean judge.
"She should go on American Idol and be the mean judge."
They ought to team her with Seidlin for a show.
Looks like Miller is next for the "HOT SEAT"!!!!!
she should be sentenced the way she used to sentence defendants appearing before her--give her the max!!
better yet, they should make her stand there for a reprimand that is as long, or longer, than her 2 hour plea colloquy. then, she should mess up the paperwork and get screamed at by one of the justices. then, after she's sentenced, she should move to mitigate and get some bs hearing where they tell her to her face--we don't believe you. your motion is denied.
now that's what i call justice!
now that's what i call punishment.
don't forget about the easter bunny...wouldn't want to shatter his dreams.
BRAVO!!!!--This is the real issue, isn't it! The true double-dealing two-faced approach to justice and reality of the fraudulent Florida Bar and its "arbitrary and lawless" application of alleged rules.
