SUPREMES SLAM FACDL

Charles J. Crist v. Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Inc.

Clearly the Supreme Court did not seem too sympathetic.  The Regional Conflict Counsel Offices will likely be back in business in the near future.

Justice Raoul G. Cantero, III made it clear he would side with the legislature. I was shocked at his bias and extremely disappointed. Can someone tell me how Peggy Quinces got appointed?

"Shocked at his bias" -- that is the dumbest comment I think I've ever seen on this blog.

He is a Florida Supreme Court Justice. He has reviewed the record and the briefs prior to oral argument. His OPINION based on the prior review of these items as to the constitutionality or non-constitutionality of the statute for the Regional Conflict Counsel Office is not "bias".

If he had made an opinion known as to the law prior to the case coming before him, that would be "bias".

It is unfortunate that the Supremes appear to be (from listening to the oral argument) likely to reverse the trial court, leading to probate attorneys and former title company hacks handling death penalty cases, but that sure seems to be whats comin....

I'm fairly new here, but I have to know. Who's Aherd and why does JAAB hate him so much? Does this guy simply make more money than they do? I didn't think the JAAB'ers actually practiced law from the comments on this site. And, what is this membership dues scandal with JAAB and Gelin?

    Can someone fill us in?

An opinion means nothing without the ability to institute the process. No money, no offices, status quo.
