''We can't build a new jail,'' Broward Commissioner John Rodstrom said in an interview. ``The real issue is that we have to figure out a way to keep bad people in jail, and people who are not so bad out of jail.''
More On Budget Cuts
"Because the numbers keep changing, Broward State Attorney Michael Satz said he felt it was premature to start talking about layoffs."
Rehab Programs On The Line
"Said Broward Circuit Judge Marcia Beach, who oversees Drug Court in Fort Lauderdale: ``This is going to be pretty severe. Without addiction treatment, we better be ready to build more jails and prisons. This is turning the clock back.''

TOBIN & ORTMAN WAX PHILOSOPHICAL

Tobin or Ortman "Waxing Philosophical"? That's a good one! Maybe they shouldn't have spent the money they were warned not to spend by the Fla. Legislature and they wouldn't have to be so philosophical about it. Try a little prudent management restraint next time.
I guess we're not getting a new courthouse. They'll have judges holding court in the back seat of their cars. No pun intended.
It's funny how they all want to cry foul when a clear message was given to them by the Florida Legislature and nothing was done because they thought once again it would just be taken care of and they'd get the funds anyway. Who's crying now?
Tobin and Ortman should both concentrate their efforts on efficiency. Both the administration of our judges and the way the Court Admin. is run could be drastically improved. Never see anything but an overstaffed office in Court Admin. sitting around doing nothing, certainly not administrating anything, and, well, we all know how hard the judges work. Ortman just spends allot of time in Tallahassee asking for more money. Guess thats falling on deaf ears these days. You could cut her staff by half and Broward wouldn't be losing anything. Ever had to go to that office for anything?
You mean like besides stumbling over each other trying to get out of one another's way and you still can't get an answer?
You've got that right! It's a joke. To many years of catering to the Ross style of administration.
REQUIRE JUDGE JAY SPECHLER and arbitrator RHONDA HOLLANDER to give back the money they misappropriated from their fake arbitration scheme and the courts can continue as a profit center for those at MOMBACH BOYLE HARDIN ENGAGED IN JUDGE PIMPING.
Ridstrom should try talking to Satz if he's serious when he says
``The real issue is that we have to figure out a way to keep bad people in jail, and people who are not so bad out of jail.''
This is counter to the Satz motto of "lock them all up"
Please supply more information on this subject. I understand that their are others that are already in possession of it.

WEST PALM BEACH — Circuit Judge William Berger says he's stepping down from the bench after five years so that he can open a branch law office with outgoing Boca Raton Mayor Steven Abrams.
"I love being a judge," Berger said. "I hate having to give up the bench. This happens to be a great financial opportunity for me."
Circuit judges earn $145,000 a year.
Berger said that an expected challenge to his reelection this year from homicide prosecutor Craig Williams was not a factor in his decision.
"None whatsoever," he said. "Craig is an excellent lawyer. I respect him highly."
Chief Judge Kathleen Kroll said she is awaiting word from the governor's office on whether Berger's successor will be appointed or elected.
Berger will join the Fort Lauderdale-based law firm of Rothstein, Rosenfeldt & Adler after he leaves the bench on June 1. With Abrams, whose tenure as mayor is ending after eight years because of term limits, Berger will open a Boca Raton office of the law firm on Town Center Road.
"They're a real powerhouse in Broward County," Berger said.
The law firm represents corporate clients and its practice includes labor and employment law, intellectual property and Internet law.
Abrams is expected to provide advice on government relations and land-use matters, as well as refer clients to other departments of the full-service law firm.
Berger said he practiced law for 27 years in a variety of areas, including securities and antitrust law, before becoming a judge. He was one of 18 applicants for a vacancy on the 4th District Court of Appeal last year, but did not make the final cut.

Guys at my high school would consider 145k a year chump change all the time, it was no big deal.
Did you and your guys go to Ridgmemont High?
No, FRAT STUD aka Ratboy aka Fetus aka FMG's Boyfriend went to Pinecrest.
And given FRAT STUD's lineage, skybox access, etc., I guess $145k is chump change.
GO BACK IN YOUR HOLE RATBOY.
Most people at Frat's high school Pine Crest would think 145 is chump change. On the otherside most good frat's have a height requirement so Bri must be trying to live out a fantasy again. Guess this replaces the last fanatsy of being a bigger blogger then Billy G.
