  Just think if Darwin or Malthus was allowed to take charge. This chump would jump and there would be no where to put the new picture, next to the dog watching Howard -- with the cheese on his nose -- for the wall of f(sh)ame in the great mans office.
  
  It is a good thing that Howard and the supervisors are there; else the first million of the fifteen or twenty million in appropriations would not be expended in a "humane," efficient, effective fashion.
  
  The new boss is the same as the old boss... Just a different need with an ego to feed...

  You came up from a different generation. A generation many practicing law or any discipline cannot appreciate today. In your biographical account “Snow Blind” you spoke of waking up in the mud looking up having experienced a truly transcendental experience at Wood Stock.
  Your perception of 1960’s America changed in an instant, on that farm near your home, in the state of New York . You had the opportunity to see the positive; the “new” release of the mind, of creativity under mind “expanding” chemicals. This was truly a change of paradigm – so overused since – of the thinking coming from your youth.
  The ensuing decades were about the marginal gains and inside baseball which surrounding those groundbreaking advancements of Dr. King, the Kennedy brothers, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, et al, et al, et al…
  The 1970’s were the “me” generation. As your biographer chronicles you became a part of it. The big changes, March on Washington, Stonewall, and so many more had already occurred. Now the grifters of the movement moved; the modern day carpet baggers. People who would not find for themselves let alone a “cause.”
  You were cast adrift in these uncharted seas. Not the obedient 50’s, or the non-conformist 60’s, but the me 70’s. You finished high schools, college, and Law School. You started working for Al Schreiber as an idealistic young gun. You left, started taking drug cases – “defending the constitution – getting into every drug dealers stash, women, etc… As your biographer says you were a big man finally. You had the women, coke, power to do what you wished.
  All that wasn’t enough. You didn’t accidently crash into the back of a police car with a sack of Coke in the glove box; you were looking for Biblical chastisement. You were banging your whores, hanging with the drug man and living large. You wanted, nay needed, redemption. You found it; Al Schrieber was your boatman across then River Stix. You were invited back into the fold of well mannered attorneys and given a second chance. You ran with it well. You became a TV star. You used you new found power for the good of the Howard growing up in the sixties.
  Now time has moved on. You save the jumper not one but twice. Why wasn’t he “fixed”/helped the first time? Why does this celebrity culture worship at the altar of the sound bite/video snippet? If he was really to be helped it would have required time, conflict, money and effort. But those are precious quantities, too prescious wasted on a screw-up.
  Where does this leave us?
