BROWARD JUDGE SPECHLER RESIGNS AMID PROBE

Broward County Court Judge Jay Spechler resigned abruptly Monday after the county's chief judge barred him from the courthouse amid a behind-the-scenes investigation a trio of ranking sources said is under way.
Chief Judge Victor Tobin quietly reassigned Spechler, a former administrative chief of county court, Thursday to handle only traffic and parking matters at the county's satellite courthouses.
''He was reassigned to his car, essentially. He didn't like it,'' one judge said.
Spechler, who was first elected in 1988, submitted his resignation letter to Gov. Charlie Crist but did not give a reason for why he was quitting.
It is unclear why Tobin barred Spechler from the courthouse. The Miami Herald was unsuccessful in reaching Tobin and Spechler on Tuesday.

"behind the scenes investigation" ok by who? JQC, Tobin, Satz for what? Interesting such a serious invetigation was not mentioned in the Tobin letter? Also interesting that Tobin's letter mentioned nothing about moving Jay for fiscal reasons. Why didn't Tobin mention the investigation when he made his brilliant comment in the Sentinal today saying he had no reason for barring him from the courthouse. Looks like spin time to cover the fact that Jay was sent to traffic for petty vindictive reasons.
That wouldn't be my call. This wreaks of a wider investigation. Why would he be bared from the main courthouse unless this involves other judges? Why would he have resigned in such a hurry. Why would he have sent his letter of resignation to the Gov. and not informed Tobin? Why has Judge Peggy Gehl been flanked by two armed guards for the past three weeks? These are all questions that will have to be answered. This isn't Tobin's falut you idiot. It seems bigger than a disagreement between the CJ and Spechler.

it does seem odd that Tobin would not address it in his letter or the media. If he did all of this would make more sense.

A Rip current of an investigation about to spell havoc for certain Broward
judge(s)? Smells like red rain for a few judicial careers. What in Hell's kitchen is going on in the Broward Judiciary anyway? Hasn't this torturous affair gone on long enough? Is a recap needed of the outrageous behavior of some of our judges in this circuit over the past two years, or is our collective memory good enough? We've been constantly reminded of the lack of quality of so many of our fine jurists and this one promises to beat the record for God knows what. I know one thing, and that is that this place needs a good judicial clean out. Then you have a Chief Judge that tries to spare a fellow judge the embarrassment of adding to the problems presented in this investigation and you hear these idiots talking about how he's perpetrating a cover up! Could this be because of a Federal Investigation into Obstruction of Justice? Sounds ominous. Hope the papers do a number on this one. We the people deserve to know the real reasons behind this "behind the scenes probe".
