It’s been a dizzying few weeks since the Rumor Mill last echoed through the ether.
All we can do is offer our sincere apologies to the little boy who always seemed to be crying wolf. He turns out to be the biggest man among us, as is usually the case. And he’s not done yet, or so we’re told. We hear more resignations may be forthcoming, so stay tuned. We promise to exercise more patience in the future...
Everyone's already heard the election news, but since some of it is still unofficial, here goes.
We hear it's Edward Salantrie, Jr. vs. Catalina Avalos, and Ian Richards vs. Steve DeLuca. We're not at liberty to say who, but opponents for Mily Rodriguez-Powell and Stacy Ross are supposedly soon to be unmasked as well. Added to Bober/Dijols and Wolk/Gonzalez, 2008 is turning out to be a banner year for democracy in Broward County. As an aside, we're told the Richards/DeLuca match-up may be somehow tied up in the Abramson/Wennett spitefest out of Palm Beach County, at least that's the whisper being campaigned.
Tongues have also been wagging all week about an incident that occurred in 4900 last Friday. Apparently our favorite long form reporter has been diligently investigating some often referenced, yet hardly proven, allegations regarding serious ethical violations by another Dale Ross appointed administrator. Seems an impromptu face to face was had, much to the embarrassment of the judge in question. Lo and behold, we also understand the usual mop and bucket brigade has been called in to swab the decks clean, so it's a safe bet we can expect the landing strip to be tidy when JQC 1 again touches down in Broward for the sure to follow soap opera/investigation.
Lastly we hear there may be some fallout from the Broward Bar's recent luncheon honoring former Chief Judge Dale Ross and his right hand men Jay Spechler and Tom Lynch (yes, the same Jay Spechler who suddenly resigned on March 31st under a reportedly darkening JQC cloud). We're told the current powers that be were none too happy about the lovefest, with the blame being laid squarely on the leadership of the Broward Bar Association's Bench & Bar Committee. Apparently, as a peace offering, the Chairmanship of the committee may not descend in the traditional manner to the current Vice-Chair this time around, though this rumor remains strongly unconfirmed.
Phew. We're tired now. They won't let us rest.

I see Ahearn is on the Broward Bench & Bar committee -- yet I'm reading no pithy yet hillarious barbs thrown his way yet re: the Spechler invitation. What gives?
Aherd has not been seen at a Bench Bar Meeting since the Awards were given out. Word is that incoming President Chris Nielson gave him the boot and told him not to come back. Good for you Chris. The Broward Bar needs leadership like yourself. Looks like Aherd gets kicked around now that his protector Sieler is out of office in May

Nice job Chris Nielson it looks like he will bring class and leadership back to the Broward County Bar Assn. Looks like A-turd is going to have a tough with his buddies like Sieler and Sprinkles out of work. Couldn't happen to a better guy.
I would love to see Ahearn as city attorney. Imagine the riches to be mined by a smart lawsuit lawyer with Ahearn as the guardian of the city coffers!
Glad to see somebody running against Avalos. She is probably the worst Judge I have ever been in front of. She is friendly enough, her temperment is not the problem. He rulings simply make no sense.
As for Gardiner, give her a break. It never ceases to amaze me how guys who bitch about not being able to get laid will insult a woman who gives it up.
Things have taken a positive turn from the way they used to be "managed" here in judicial races, haven't they? With no court appointed cases to be doled out like candy to no shortage of eager beavers always waiting in the wings, things have become more difficult for judges who depended solely on quid pro quo to win the day for them and thus slow progress in the process. Could we be witnessing Broward's Judiciary actually taking the painful cure long awaited by purists and heretofore politically locked out potential candidates that once ruled the way any judicial opposition was discouraged under the Old Ross & Co. regime? It sure looks that way to me. I think it's just the beginning, a first wave that will bring much needed reform and a healthy infusion of diversity to Broward's Badly Ailing Judiciary. At last democracy is returning to a county that has been lost for far too long in the grip of judicial tyranny that has as a result shaken the confidence of Broward citizens in their judiciary to its very core.
Waahhhhhhhhh. I kissed ass to get on this committee, spent years kissing ass to move my way up, and all because I spearheaded giving awards to the former admin judges nobody can stand, I get denied my presidency? How dare they!!! Wahhhhhhh.
I'll call Dale, and Sprinkles, and the Silver Surfer, and get them to lean on Chris Nielson....Oh wait, they can't do that anymore.
Well, at least I still have my nightly walks through WM and my obsessive blogging to get me through the day.
Are you freaking kidding me? The best that A-terd will do under a Seiler administration is be the clerk for parking tickets at $12.50 an hour.
Given his lack of business, friends, and patrons at this point, he'd jump at it. It beats flipping burgers.
So sorry about the lost Chairmanship of the BB Committee Cyberpologist. I know you're really upset since you have hundreds of pre-made plaques sitting in boxes in your house, just waiting for you to have the opportunity to present them. And now that opportunity is gone. Maybe you can give them away at Halloween to the kids that trick or treat in your neighborhood.

A-Terd will never be city attorney. He lacks the capacity and smarts as evidenced in his last several blunders. He better stick himself to somebody else this time around, if he can.

Nielson is a kind and considerate man who will help many. Much better than the other idiot. No comparison. What's Aherd going to do with all those plaques now?

I hear the cover story of New Times this week is going to be Ana Gardner and her undisclosed, sexual relationships with attorneys appearing before her in court .... like two prosecutors, and defense attorney John Cotrone (who then-girlfriend Gardner appointed to be a Special P.D. on cases in her own division). Could be interesting!!
Its so funny.. They all knew this day would fome but they still can't face it. Reckless and stupid if you ask me.
If she has broken her oath and the canons she should suffer the maximum penalty. That's how she doles out her particular brand of justice. She should get the same no quarter treatment.
