"Taking him off the air today wouldn't change much because he's already been a TV personality for more than 10 years. You can't erase that. It would be mostly a symbolic move."
This is tough for me, because I'm simpatico with Finkelstein on many of his views. I like the way he's handled his first term in office. He's jousted with cities, the state and the Sheriff's Office on treatment of the mentally ill and homeless. He's rankled the local judiciary by spotlighting inappropriate behavior.
But that doesn't mean Arreaza doesn't have a valid complaint.
The fairest thing the station could do is to shelve Help Me Howard until this election cycle is complete."

Start an investigation of Laura Seidman. Because her husband used to work for you and cureently presides over cases you prosecute you can cite conflict and let the Gov appoint a sepcial prosecutor.They say you do nothing to investigate public corruption, prove them wrong.
Jack why don't you write, you have the guts and the knowledge, the legal profession is waiting for you to do the right thing. Write the letter to the FCC and anyone else that needs to be informed. And Howard says he only spends a few minutes on this show, that is crazy, it is said that he has his lawyers in his office researching the issues for hmh and he can not diminish the times that he reaaly spends on this show and it is interesting to note that he talks about the attempts to hurt him and his family, why is that, he uses all his office resources to try to drum up opposition against other constitutional offices (mostly judges) based on inuendo rumor and gossip. Howard is holding an office NOT A MONARCHY and should draw opposition and should be accountable. Jack shouldn't you also write a letter to the Florida Ethics Commission, he is now the FULL TIME Public Defender not and Assistant, he is suppose to be on duty 24 hours a day, HE HOLDS A CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICE, and who is he kidding that he is helping people, he has one interest, SELF PROMOTION and the courthouse knows it. Jack show your strength again, do what is right, help the silent majority.

Start a pro bono legal clinic and give something back to the community that you've attempted to plunder but not been very good at. I guess the pickens are drying up for you.

Howard helps poor people. I'm guessing the Howard bashers are rich people who don't give a shit. Or judges and state attorneys who now have to behave like adults since Howard came into office. You may not like change but Howard is the one who forced it on a bunch of bully good old boys.

Even with Mayo cherry picking Howard's quotes Howard still seems desperate. His position is indefensible. Howard says he spends very little time on his show, who can believe that, the courthouse knows he spends quite a bit of time preparing for the show and they say he has his inside group helping him on state time. He knows it is all about politics. Mayo you have declared that you are in line with Finkelstein with many of your views, how can you after going to school for journalism not give the other 2 candidates a fair and unbiased view during the next 6 months, is it because finkelstein leaks you all these rumors inuendos and gossip about all of these people, you are willing to sell out the rules of journalism, fair play. Why would these 2 other candidates even want to speak to you when you are going to do a hatchet job on them, by favoring your friend Howard, this is typical of what you are trying to prevent in your columns, are you a hypocrite? Where is the essence of your being, reflect and analyze, don't be blinded by your friendship or your inside information. Be a good journalist, be who you want to be.
I don't see why Howard Finkelstein should have to have to go off the air when he's helping the community. This Arreaza seems to have jumped on that right away. It looks like that was his intent from the begining. Let him raise the money to purchase air time if he want to.

On top of broadcast news exception to the FCC's equal time rules, the FCC equal time regulations ONLY apply to federal candidates. Public Defender is a state office so it isn't covered by the FCC equal time provisions.
The good people are always persecuted. Howard Finkelstein is one of the best people addressing various societal wrongs that are in dire need of someone to take their side and help them. We've got some really corrupt judges that are still trying to manipulate the situation and using some bad people to do it. They'll all go down just like Spechler and Ross. They deserve to go down for using their positions of power to oppress any opposition to their views. This is still a free country.
The only thing that sounds desperate is your rather sour attack on someone that does more good for our community than you ever have. You sound like a smarmy lawyer that has nothing to do but criticize others that are better than you are.

Arrrrrrrrreaza has no policy. This is called a set up job by Ross and Co. The only one that is going to get his clock cleaned is the patsy that fell for the line of a few judges that got their clocks cleaned for dirty dealings of their own making but still need someone to blame for things. The fault lies solely in their own laps. Dirty dealings bring dirty results. There's a few with mud all over their aprons that they just can't get the stains out of. Try a change of clothes.

Only subsection 315(b)(2) applies to Federal elections. The main "equal-time" provisions apply to this and other Broward elections.
Interesting how you guys talk about the old guard. Howard is one of the oldest of the old guard. Who wrote affidavits for him to be readmitted to the Bar after his criminal case? Oh yeah, it was Howard Zeidwig. Two face Finky stabbed him in the back just like he did Schreiber.
Why the personal attack on Alex? I'm not a fan of his, and will not be voting for him in the primary, but he has raised an issue that is worth discussion: the lack of resources at the PD's office and its relation to the attorneys representing clients who can afford an attorney.
Certainly wont carry the day, but it is an issue worth further discussion.
Come on, we all know that the CLERK decides who gets a free lawyer. And what is a PD supposed to do when he or she gets a client who seems to have enough money to hire a lawyer? Spend time investigating the client? Come on, get a life. Alex, if you want to fix the problem, RUN FOR CLERK and get a legal department that checks the application for PD. Prosecute a few for perjury and you will see how things change.

Shame on WSVN. Another attorney can continue the helping piece until the election is over; WSVN wouldn't lose any ratings. If Howard wants to be known for being the voice of justice, then he should follow the rules too.

Ummmm.....Sir, have you cleared this request with JAABenefactor Lee Jay Seidman?
I don't think that given the numerous signifciant issues that the Seidman family is dealing with at present, that the ADJ would want you looking into the so-called Cyberpop's old SPD appointments.
As has been commented regularly on this blog, there was a long period of time (not surprisingly while the ADJ was being considered for a Circuit Court appointment) that Judge Seidman regularly doled out SPD appointments to Cyberpops at the end of the DV docket on Fridays.
Did this have something to do with the fact that Cyberpops shares office space with members of the JNC?
Anyway, given the scrutiny Laura is under for her negligence, misfeasance and incompetence as the Broward Health General Counsel and the potential forgery of her prior performance review, I don't think Judge Seidman wants this issue being discussed further.

Michael Mayo writes about Alex Arreaza's campaign to get WSVN-Channel 7 to take Help Me Howard! taken off the air. Why? Because Alex is running for public defender against the show's star, Howard Finkelstein, and feels he should get equal airtime. Mayo agrees with Arreaza. I think I would too -- if the show was political. It's not. Finkelstein is also basically grandfathered in, since he had been doing the show long before he became Public Defender. But you have to give Arreaza points; he got some good publicity out of the idea, which he definitely needs to combat the well-known Finkelstein.

Bob Norman is just another yellow jounalist that receives rumors inuendo and half cocked truths from finkelstein, another tool of finkelstein, it is said if you are getting a call from bob norman you are really getting a call from finkelstein. something that is wrong that violates the rules of journalism the rules of an even playing field in politics and more likely violates the Florida Ethics and the FCC cannot be grandfathered in. Does that mean that the Russian government is grandfathered in and Castro's government grandfatered in, and Norman's line of reasoning as well as his journalism there is no logic, just a twisted agenda, one more of finkelstein's character assasins.
Are financial disclosures required of candidates who run for office? I wonder what all the challengers make and this info should come out. I mean if the challenger is looking for a pay raise and job security then the voters can make a more informed decisio. Does anyone know the answer or how to get the info?
Yeah, Bob Norman may be all you say and more, but his article on Judge Ana Gardiner has an air of truth to it. Gardiner has been corrupt for so long. It really is time for her to go.
