Broward P.D. candidate demands investigation of incumbent

"Arreaza said he sent letters last week demanding inquiries into Finkelstein by the Broward State Attorney's Office, the Florida Ethics Commission, the state Attorney General's Office and the state Division of Elections.
Arreaza alleges Finkelstein told employees that if they support anyone else for public defender, he would consider them disloyal. Arreaza also accuses Finkelstein of misusing office resources and staff to help research his "Help Me Howard" legal advice segment on WSVN-Ch. 7.
In his letter to State Attorney Michael Satz, Arreaza wrote that the allegations are based on anonymous information he had received and anonymous comments on a blog focused on Broward County Courthouse issues...
Finkelstein said he has refused to take campaign contributions from any employees other than his office supervisors. He said he has made it clear that there will be no campaigning tolerated in his office — either for him or against him...
Finkelstein said he keeps his work on "Help Me Howard" segments apart from the office. One of his supervisors, Steve Michaelson, has done research for the segment, but Finkelstein says he pays him for it and the work is done in Michaelson's spare time.
Michaelson declined to comment Thursday, referring questions to Finkelstein...
Democratic Chairman Mitch Ceasar said he hadn't heard about Arreaza's letters until Thursday.
"Most of the political activists are very familiar with Howard Finkelstein and not very knowledgeable about his opponent," Ceasar said."

Yawn.......I've got some big beefs with what Howard has done at the office, but THIS is what all the fuss by that ONE guy clusterposting about Howard was about???

Maybe Arreaza should have had Dale Ross compose these letters. That way, although undoubtedly sounding as equally moronic, they would have been at least authored by a nationally recognized mental fingerling.
We may now have a runner up to that seemingly much coveted title. Petty politics in Broward leaves one with the impression there are very few possessing any degree of originality, but even less with any grammar skills. Mr. Arreaza went to law school where?
This is the tip of the iceberg into the alleged criminal wrongdoing being performed by the public defender Finkelstein. Finkelstein quickly admits Michaelson has been working on the Help me Howard show, whereas, it may have been stated in a previous sunsentinel article that 2 people from channel 7 did the research, that is why there is a conflict for finkelstein to hold 2 jobs, how does he negotiate salary with Michaelson for channel 7 and how does he also supervise michaelson at that point, how does he decide what salary to give michaelson at the public defender's office, this just smells of wrongdoing. Does michaelson list this additional income from howard on his tax returns, does finkelstein list this on his tax return as an expense for the help me howard show income of $30,000 or is it just fabrication. If finkelstein is so open and above board why didn't he allow Michaelson to speak directly to the media. Under subpoen michaelson will have to tell the truth. There are other people prepared to tell the truth, namely they have been on state time doing the help me howard show. How about michaelson's former and present day secretaries they will have to be looked at, what about the outside attorneys michaelson contacted on state time to help with the research of the help me howard show. When the state attorney reviews and analyzes these issues he will see a patter of wrongdoing.
You gotta do better Alex if you want to gain any notoriety here. Who are you counting on to get your information: Lewis, Ross or a courthouse janitor?

Isn't it fundamentally flawed, isn't is a florida ethics violation for the full time Public Defender to hold 2 jobs, now we see why it is. 1. he is utilizing state employees on state time to do the help me howard show 2. how does as an employer to these employees negotiate salaries and hours for the help me howard show, which becomes more important the help howard show or the public defenders office what happens when the employee runs out of clock and has to decide what to work on the indigent's defense or the help me howard show and public defender employees have been put in this position, they have been told to stop everything you are doing and assist in the help me howard show.
Sorry, but there's not even a "patter" (sic) of wrong doing. Besides, Mike Satz has nothing to review or analyze with such 3rd person allegations in (I would agree with an above poster) a throughly poorly worded complaint, if that's what you call it.

Hey Frank, while you're at it (sucking up a salary while reading this on the govt dime), consider this:
there is a Bar rule that prohibits lawyers from going into a jail and soliciting clients.
you and 'The Fink' pretend that you can do so under misplaced reliance on law? No. Everyone knows you hire ERU staff people to pull inmates out, ask them if they want/need a lawyer - then give them the appl. right there.
I'll bet it's not free to these people, either? Bet there's some 40 dollar fees that start to add up, huh?

Few of his employees like working for him. Are turnover rates public info? I mean ACCURATE ones - i.e., how many people have quit or been fired since 'The Fink' came around?
There is a consequence to being a dick to your employees (and letting Keuthan lower the office morale with her childish antics), there is no shortage of people eager & willing to come fwd to say: 1. yes, we directly solicited inmates in jail 2. yes, michaelson bragged to me about being 'The Fink's lacky 3. yes, I saw michaelson doing rsch. for 'The Fink' in his PD office many times - even heard him on the phone discussing things that showed up days later on WSVN.

Candidate for Broward County Public Defender Alex Arreaza is announcing two major endorsements today at 12 noon Carlos & Pepe's Restaurant. Please arrive early as we anticipate a rush on the free chips and salsa by the press.
The first endorsement will be by Former Jaab President Craig Esquinazi. After the announcement Mr. Esquinazi will be available for comment. Mr. Esquinazi will discuss how the JAABlog is secretly run by Current PD Howard Finkelstein through William Gelin, Marshall Williams and Jeff Ivashuk.
The second endorsement will come from Free Speech Advocate Sean Conway. Mr. Conway will discuss his reasons for leaving the PD's office shortly after Howard's election due to harassment over his preference to carry a manpurse. Mr. Conway will also discuss how JAABlog is used to tear down opponents of change such as Mr. Arreaza.

I agree that pointing to amorphous postings on a blog as evidence of anything is the sort of idiocy on which Jack Thompson holds patents and trademarks. I'm less inclined to agree with the assertion that he is JAAblog's favorite Punching Bag. Isn't that dubious distinction more properly held by David Lindsey?
Will go no where. There is no substance to any of the complaints.
True enough, but David has been in a loony bin for a while and just got out and Jack has been more up front with his stupidity of late.
Mr. Arreaza's platform for change resembles one better argued at South Florida State Hospital before an arranged audience of listeners. Certainly no applause following his address will be anticipated. Any write-ins are appreciated for much needed content for future use.
