FT. LAUDERDALE
, FLA. – August 13, 2008 –  Broward County Court Judge Stacy Ross has accepted the prestigious National Foundation for Women’s Bar Association Public Service and Outstanding Member Program Award on behalf of Broward County Women Lawyers’ Association (BCWLA).

Judge Ross accepted the award alongside BCWLA President Tonja Haddad Coleman, and BCWLA Board Member Jacquelyn Holden at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City during the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations 2008 Women’s Bar Leadership Summit.  Leaders from across the United States gathered for the event which included a speech by Geraldine Ferraro, a famous Democrat and the only female Vice Presidential candidate representing a major American political party to date.

The three local women leaders were among the BCWLA participants involved in “The Books and Breakfast Project,” a book reading project with girls at PACE Center for Girls of Broward County.  The project, in keeping with BCWLA’s dedication to the theme of “women helping girls,” included women lawyers and judges going into classrooms to create a “book club” setting, helped to enhance girls’ reading and public speaking skills, and improve their self confidence.

Stacy Ross has served as a Broward County Court Judge since December of 2005.

Stacy Ross is an excellent Judge and deserves to be on the bench for a very long time. She has withstood all the nasty comments about her and those about her father.

There are several sitting judges who could stand to watch Stacy in action and learn something.

And to you attorneys who dis her - What happened? Did she deny your motion or capias your client because you're a no-show?

Ross will be on the circuit bench before Avalos gets a job in central. Life is not fair but then again Ross is a fair judge and Avalos is on some weird power trip. Maybe the election experience will cure her but I bet she comes back twice as whacked out as she was before.

Gimme a break. It's gonna take more than a PR campaign by Shag Shak after he loses the race for Sheriff to make the way S. Ross was elevated to the bench any more palatable than what is already known. All I hear is how experience matters when choosing someone for the bench and there were people that applied at the same time as she did with thirty years in to her, what, maybe six? Tell me daddy and politics weren't at play again? Oink, Oink!

To hear A-Turd tell the story, it was because he's so feared as a political operative in Broward that no one would dare challenge his candidate. Well, that's his story.
Then again, Judy Stern needs to change his diapers for him every day if he isn't going to continue to smell like he wet himself when he sees Kevin Kulic in the halls of the courthouse. He should have his name changed to Baby Huey.

All judges should receive opposition to stem corruption within our judiciary. These should not be positions guaranteed for life. New blood is necessary to improve our system of justice. Term limits would go far to improving the situation of a complacent judiciary.

great point made on another site about Howard saying he doesn't care if wealthy people get FREE PD legal svcs:

"Well, now I know, as a taxpayer, that I am NOT going to vote for Howard - look what that fool said about MY money:
"I do not want to be a public defender to insure that the Clerk of the Courts correctly determines who is indigent and who is not."
WTF?? Well, guess what Howie - WE DO!!! I am tired of paying legal fees for people who don't deserve it. Thank you for revealing that aspect of your platform - I will let as many voters as possible know this!"

    dam! suck on that Frank.

The same goes for the public defender of broward county they should receive opposition to stem corruption within the public defender's office? This position also should not be positions guaranteed for life, how many years was schreiber in the pd's office for wasn't it over 20 years. You are correct in saying new blood is necessary to improve our system of justice, and you are correct in saying that term limits would go far to improve the situation of complacent public defenders. Howard should have term limits. Thank you to term limits written earlier.

What job is Alex running for? If he wants to insure that only indigent people get represented by the PD's office he should have run for Clerk of Courts. It is their responsibility to see that only indigent people receive PD services.

Instead Alex wants a duplication of efforts at Taxpayer expense. He also wants the taxpayers to foot the bill for his public records request.

If elected he will find any excuse to withdraw from cases in the hope that his buddies in the private criminal bar can extort money from the poor and disabled.

By the way. Alex used as evidence in his complaints to the SA and ethics commission blog posts. Now he or his supporter are posting on other sites and quoting their own rants here as more evidence. Anyone see a pattern developing?

What's wrong with withdrawing from cases? They get great attornies at cost and the public defenders can actually be attornies who focus on their cases and free the poor, rather than having hundreds of cases were no justice is served. There is a reason every other public defender's office operates that way.
