Two Fort Lauderdale policemen cleared in man's death after struggle
Fort Lauderdale - Two officers have been cleared of using excessive force in a violent struggle that ended in a man's death last year.
Sgt. Jose Pinto-Gonzalez and Officer Gregory Fautas acted properly, the city and State Attorney's Office have determined, when they subdued and arrested a raving, violent Javier Barrueta.
Officials review two other incidents involving Fort Lauderdale officers
Eugene McCoy was given a counseling slip for "discourtesy, insolence, or acting in an uncivil manner by word or act to any member of the public while acting in an official capacity."
Jose Lopez was cleared after being accused of using unnecessary force against a strong-arm robbery suspect in November 2007. Lopez was taking the juvenile to jail when he allegedly began kicking and thrashing in the back seat. Lopez and other officers had to carry him into the juvenile jail. The suspect alleged Lopez kneed him in the head several times.
