Re: Civil Rights Action To Be Filed Against Florida Bar, Supreme Court

Dear Mr. White and Chief Justice Quince:

The story on the front page of the Palm Beach Post today, which highlights The Bar’s and the Supreme Court’s illegal politicization of the “disciplinary” process, makes it all the more desirable and necessary that I file my action seeking civil rights and other remedies. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/politics/content/local_news/epaper/2008/09/15/a1a_abramson_0916.html.

It is particularly troubling, Mr. White, that you, as Bar President, have allowed your own law firm to get involved in this politicization so brazenly. What is equally astounding is that The Florida Bar has chosen to completely ignore the ABA’s McKay Commission Report as to how to avoid politicization of the disciplinary process. Sitting on that Commission was none other than The Florida Bar’s John Berry. I can’t wait for his deposition in which he will have to explain why The Florida Bar has rejected, for example, his and the ABA’s stern warning that Bar Governors must have no input into the disciplinary process because of the danger of politicization. See http://www.abanet.org/cpr/reports/mckay_report.html.

I have repeatedly offered to sit down and try to resolve this dispute, and both the Court and The Bar have refused. This is my last effort and offer in that regard. Both of you have every reason to do so, in light of the bribery, extortion, libel, wiretapping, computer hacking, obstruction of justice, fraud, mail fraud, perjury, theft, discrimination, and obscenity trafficking on your side of the ledger.

Anyway, it’s up to you all. Either meet with me now or pay me later. I always wanted to own a Bar, and this is your last chance to hold onto yours.

    Regards, Jack Thompson

    What does that tell you?
Broward County in order to grow needs more black judges. Judges should be representative of the communities they are supposed to serve.
There is, as we know, something very wrong about our judiciary here.
Make our voices heard. More people like Mr. Richards should have the courage to seek office through running for that office and not sitting by trying to get appointed.
That's the difference between those that want it handed to them without any risk, and those that have the courage to do something about their convictions.
If you want it, go for it and be damned with the political pundants. They won't do anything for you anyway but play both sides of the fence.

Why should they take this latest empty threat of yours with anything but a grain of salt?

It's obvious you aren't suing them because you have NOTHING and you can't win. Or maybe Patricia won't give you $300 to file your "lawsuit." They aren't going to meet with you if they haven't by now, and they shouldn't need to...they've already scraped you off the bottom of their shoes.

Right now, you come off as nothing but a cowardly bully trying to push people around with threats of legal action. I guess this pretty much sums up your career.

Jack is right about Jay White and Gerry Richman. They are law partners. Gerry represents Judge Wennet in the contested Palm Beach race. Talk about conflict of interest. Also, there are a number of people on the board who gave money to Wennet. Since when do they not take the referee's recommendation? No to public reprimand. Let's suspend Bill Abramson's license to practice. Then Wennet can steal the election even though he got fewer votes when all votes were counted. Hate to say it, but Jack is right.

    1. The next appointed circuit court judge in broward is a done deal - and no it won't be a black.
    2. There are only 5 hispanic judges
    3. there are actually only 4 black judges
    4. There are way too many jewish judges - many arrogenat, rude, condescending and mean and that's not even counting Mardi Levey Cohen
    5. However, the times they are a changing.

Let's be honest! Mr Richards soon to be Judge Richards in January 2009 is a racist. I for one will never call him "your honor." He targeted Avalos because of her hispanic last name, then hid from the stupid white voters who would rather vote for someone they know nothing about, but at least the name wasn't hispanic. Richards is no savior and no hero. I predict he will bomb as a judge. And before you say anything, NO! I am not a fan of Avalos. But what Mr Richards did was wrong. If this is not acknowqledged, then there will not be political peace in this county. Ellen Feld is also a racist. Bernie Bober and Mardi Levey Cohen are both racist. Unless this is acknowledged and strongly discouraged there will be no peace in this county.
Anarchy will prevail. You have yet to hear of and see the repurcussions from the Richards-Feld-Levey Cohen-Bober shenanigans.
Every sitting judge in Broward County is put on notice. Each and everyone of you will get an opponent. There will be plenty of money flowing in from outside this county to fund opponenets for everyone. Scorched Earth Policy.
No Incumbent is safe in 2010. At least the 2010 incumbents will have 2 years notice not 4 months like Julio, Dijols and Avalos. Life will become a real bitch for Broward's Judiciary.

Avalos is that you. You should be giving out your resumes. Black folks got their names from white folks from slavery days. Why didn't you call Holmes, Tobin and Shutter to this meeting or go the Tallahassee with your complain to the Governor. It sound like what Richards was talking about the whiner’s club.

You may be right about racism in Broward County, and that it cost Judge Catalina Avalos the election. But let’s have a moment of honesty here, and acknowledge that’s just a guess. So here’s another scenario…. The thousands upon thousands of Latinos living in Broward County read that Hispanic sounding name on the ballot and voted for Catalina Avalos along with some die-hard fans. The other half that voted against Avalos actually had the displeasure of witnessing her courtroom antics in person.

You see in the justice system, not only do the criminals and attorneys feel the wrath of Judge Avalos but the jurors and potential jurors as well. Some research would have revealed her courthouse personality, and a little homework would have revealed the number of jurors and potential jurors that have passed through her courtroom.

Given both scenarios, I would guess that both were significantly contributing reasons for her humiliating loss. As a journalist in Broward County, you should have been aware of her courtroom theatrics, and known to include that in your article.

Kudos to Richards for his dogged determination and smart strategy. I just hope he brings a bit more professionalism to the county court.
