Remember the strange case of Eleanor "Leisa" Adderley? You know, the wife of Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Frank Adderley, who allegedly fired four shots in the near vicinity of her husband during an argument?
It was reported by the press that Frank Adderley's nephew, Karrick Robinson, heard his uncle say "please don't kill me, Leisa," before the first shot rang out. According to press reports, there was also evidence of premeditation on Ms. Adderley's part from earlier in the day.
Ms. Adderley was arrested and quickly processed through the jail, after being given a preferential private bond hearing. Many in the legal community believed she was getting special treatment, and wondered why she wasn't booked with Attempted Murder, as the police would normally do in such a situation. Public Defender Howard Finkelstein said as much in the newspaper, and was branded a racist by attorney George Allen for calling for the equal application of the law.
The Broward County State Attorney's Office did not recuse itself from the case, despite the obvious conflict of interest. They eventually charged Ms. Adderley by Information with a third degree felony, Aggravated Assault (Firearm/Discharge), and a second degree felony, Shooting Within A Dwelling House.
Now take the case of "Mr. X". He is alleged to have pulled a legally carried gun from his waistband, after having made a statement that he was going to use it. The gun was never fired. No one was hurt. Mr. X was charged by Information with a first degree felony via 775.087 (1), Attempt Murder In The Second Degree (Civilian Victim). Mr. X is not rich or powerful, does not have a felony record, and is typical of the way most individuals are (over)charged in Broward County when accused of a crime.
Mr. Satz and company are fond of catchphrases. "The law is the law," they say, or "we have a constitutional duty to enforce the letter of the law," or "let the jury decide." They act as if they have no discretion in interpreting the statutes, as if the law demands blanket application in each and every circumstance. Cocaine residue cases must be filed as felonies, they say, because they have no discretion, even though the same cases are rarely, if ever, filed as felonies in Palm Beach or Miami.
Yet, time and again, Mr. Satz seemingly affords breaks when a rich or powerful person is accused of a crime, no matter how reckless or heinous. The poor or unconnected are, to quote Bob Norman, unloaded on with both barrels, while get out of jail free cards are handed out to the elite. Factor in Satz's dismal record of corruption prosecutions, and his refusal to recuse himself from situations that stink worse than a Philadelphia fish market, and the picture becomes clear to even the most thoroughly brainwashed SAO cultist. The law is most definitely not the law in Broward.
Everyone knows corruption is king here. It's the Broward way. The rich get richer and the poor get the shaft. Build more jail$, business as usual. They will never admit it, and, admittedly, it would be bad politics to do so. Still, is it asking too much to spare us the damn platitudes? The phony, trite statements employed to cover thirty years of failed policies and political hijinks? Do they have to expend so much energy pretending things are not as they seem?
The law is the law, indeed.

There is a case pending similar to the adderly case except they are two yung hispanic males. They are charged with att 1st degree murder. The victim was not touched by a bullet and they are sitting in the jail with "no bond" hold after the arthur hearing in front of Judge Dale Cohen. Yeah Justice is blind in Broward , lololo I watched the arthur hearing and was astonished with the judge's giving a 17 and 19 year old males with no crim history" no bond"

Maybe just maybe - the elite hire attorneys that are competent, ready to go to trial, competent to handle a trial and seasoned attorneys. So Bill why didn't YOU run against Mike Satz last time? Even if you didn't win you could have had the entire County as your audience to air your grievances. While I didn't agree with Arreaza's campaign issues, at least he put up his 5k and went in front of the County and aired his grievances. The voters didnt agree or care what he said, but at least he did it. All you can do is hide in anonymity within your own blog. Why is it that you wont even put your name on posts like this? The real problem is not to attack the poster of information whether or not Bill is the poster. The issue is that Alex Arreaza and other that have run need backing. Ok so you didn't agree, but how can you say arreaza put up his own money but no one backed him? It is illogical? Someone has to stand up behind the Arreaza type and fight for what they believe is right. If you do not like Satz then run against him and get some backing.

A woman I know is getting railroaded by the ASA"S. She's a beneficial member of this community, active in her church, and on the board of a children's cancer foundation. She was at her friends house on night and as she was leaving, her nutty ex and his girlfriend, both higher than kites, got a friend to try to block her car in while they came running down the street screaming they were going to kill her. They all live in the same neighborhood and he knew she goes to her friends every sunday night cause sh drives her friend to meetings. She ran home, called the police, and they arrested her! Not months before that, they had went to her house 2 days in a row and waited, tried to hit her with a car, and beat her up, the police did nothing. Now she's charged with AWDW, meanwhile, these dopers are scott free and they are the ones that should have been arrested and they still continue to call, threaten, and harrass. She's too scared to call the police. How does the ASA justify this. She's never even had a speeding ticket!?

Satz is the ultimate self serving weasel masquerading as one of the good guys. He runs his office as any cheap thug would run a gang. He won't ever retire either. He will be there until someone brave stands up and runs or until Satz finds happiness with another human being. The odds of either happening are slim to none. The one thing I can guarantee - the SAO will not drop Milian's case simply because of his ties with the SAO. Any ties he has with the SAO have been long destroyed by his actions.
On a side note - don't we want them to drop the charges against Milian. Isn't he a defense attorney and SAO basher. If he was a PD who went private - would we want them to drop the charges then?
Do we ever want the SAO to drop charges? OR - - are we saying that because poor people and clients of lawyers that suck don't get breaks - then no one should.
I'm new to this - please help. I spend all my time in the library reading cases in preparation for the trials I have. I tend to make my breaks rather than rely on someone else to give them to me.
I guess I should spend more time reading this blog and complaining about how unfair the system is rather than making my breaks. Sure would free up sometime on the weekends.
