SENTINEL
New Palm Beach County state attorney to be sworn in today
"Early in the campaign, McAuliffe offered a few ideas that grabbed attention. A public-private partnership in which private attorneys would volunteer to prosecute some misdemeanor cases would tackle tandem issues: budget cuts and growing case loads. The program, geared toward former prosecutors in private practice and young attorneys, would begin within three months, he said."

3 state attorneys leaving: Shorstein, Tanner, Blair
"Shorstein said he's been frustrated in recent years with Jacksonville's response to a growing crime problem.
"The response seemed to be not caring," said Shorstein, who over the past couple of years often said Jacksonville was "a tale of two cities," one poor, black and violent, the other predominantly white and seemingly indifferent.
He said the answer to crime must emphasize both punishment and prevention, but that Jacksonville's leaders seemed more interested in punishment.
Prevention, in the form of programs aimed at young people entering the juvenile justice system, is ultimately more cost-effective, he said.
"I don't have any problems putting people away," Shorstein said. "We just can't afford it."
ORLANDO SENTINEL
State attorney goes with no regrets
"Ultimately, Tanner blamed his election loss on the negative campaign waged by the police unions, who said Tanner ran a vindictive jail investigation because his daughter Lisa had been held and allegedly abused."

Public defender cleans house
"Layoffs began this morning at the Public Defender’s Office in Pensacola.
Thirteen employees, including two attorneys, were laid off by noon.
Inside the courthouse, employees waited to hear their fate in the lobby. (Incoming Public Defender) Owens appeared at the door and called employees into the office.
Those told to report to their offices were safe. Those told to report to the law library were fired."

Pols Crowd Sheriff’s Swearing In
"Broward Circuit Judge Ana Gardiner, Circuit Court Administrative Judge Ilona Holmes and County Court Judge Gisele Pollack were there.
County Court Judge Joel Lazarus, a personal friend of the sheriff’s, swore in Lamberti."

ana is a sheriff groupie. watch out al, we all know what happened to her pal kenny. she's bad luck!
Looks like the predictable judges are now trying to muscle in on Lamberti's win and political base. I'd say comical if it weren't so pathetic.
I can understand the judge that swears in the Sheriff being there, but I think there is an appearance of impropriety when a judge shows up to a politician's, yes the Sheriff's Office is a political office, swearing in, especially for the judges in criminal who will routinely have BSO deputies testifying before them.
There goes another BrowardBeat.com story appearing on JAABlog. Bill must be a fan of Buddy Nevins.
Lamberti had better watch these judicial groupies. Look what happened to Jenne. What are they there for anyway? Lazarus, okay, but I thought they were precluded from attending these kinds of political events. It must be the Sheriff's big budget and political juice! Bad form.
I am not sure that I sure be the one to point out the obvious, but when Barak Obama ( a politician) gets sworn in, notice the chap in the black robe administering the oath of office.
If you have any further complaints you should direct them to the United States Supreme Court.
Hey bright bulb dim wit - why don't you read and then re-read the comments. No one is criticizing the judge (Lazarus) swearing in the Sheriff (Lamberti). The question, and it's a good question, is should judges be there in the audience, especially the criminal judges that must make decisions impacting BSO on a daily basis.
Laz the Spaz trying to grab the spotlight again. Gee, does he ever get it. He's just a county court judge.
Yes, Lazarus is a County Court Judge. He is also a County Court Judge that has Circuit Court Judges who give him cases to try.
Why would you chastize a judge who works to help out other judges?
If you want to cast stones, throw them at the Circuit Court Judges who send him and other judges cases and can't handle their own loads.
And your point is what? There are plenty of county court judges that can use the extra doe. He's one of them. Ask your hero to do it for nothing and maybe you have a point.
When you come forward with proof of giving up your salary to work for free, I will ask JTL to do the same.
Until then, don't talk out your @$$
No need to work for free. Just don't take the extra money he gets for trying cases he shouldn't be trying anyway. The state has a budget shortfall, remember stupid? I think it's time the Laz retires. Isn't that coming soon?
Milk it for all it's worth, Joel.
