No, you just have to be African American to become a judge (for the time being)

Why is the appointment process the main point all the time? Just run like Richards did and have something to be really proud of. He is doing a great job.

Ian Richards has yet to sit on a case. You are either someone lying for Ian Richards or someone who takes hallucinogens. Richards is at judicial college all this week. He will start Monday. I don't expect much since he was a lousy attorney

To 3:17 the best judges are typically the ones who were lousy judges. They couldn't make a living so they take low paying judge jobs instead.

Wasn't Ian Richards was fired from the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office? Wasn't his law practice doing lousy?
Now he'll be making $135,000 and living big. He'll get knocked out in 2014. Let him enjoy.

Richards was was never fired from the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office. He resigned anyone who says otherwise is lying, hey that what people will do. Go to the Miami Dade' Clerk and search his full name and you will see when he started and resigned as per the MD SAO documents on the website. His practice did well enough to pay his bills for nearly four years, payoff his home and oh yeah beat Avalos funded with his own money.

The rest history you can do it run for judge.

Hennepin County jury convicts man of trying to swindle Petters' lawyer. Man claimed to be able to put a judge in Petters' pocket for $250,000.
A Minneapolis man was convicted Wednesday of trying to swindle the defense lawyer for imprisoned Wayzata businessman Tom Petters.
A Hennepin County District Court jury took less than an hour to convict Derrick Riddle, who acted as his own lawyer.
Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Tom Fabel, who prosecuted the case, said Riddle could be sentenced to up to 34 months. District Court Judge Mark Wernick set sentencing for 9 a.m. Dec. 24.
Riddle contacted Petters' lawyer Jon Hopeman in late October and told him that he could get a judge to free Petters in exchange for $250,000. Petters remains in jail after being arrested by the FBI and indicted in an alleged long-term fraud scheme. Hopeman notified the federal prosecutor, who sent over FBI Special Agent David Kukura. He helped set up a meeting with Riddle and Hopeman, which was recorded.

In the FBI video, Riddle said he was working on behalf of a large organization called Motivated By Greed that would help get Petters freed. He told Hopeman to drop off $250,000 at a north Minneapolis address, which was Riddle's residence.

In his defense, Riddle argued he wasn't guilty of a crime because there was no victim.

Leave Richards alone. He is a hero for knocking out Avalos the Cop. Enuff said.
  • 1/9/2009 9:02 AM YOU WANT DIVERSITY? wrote:
One great step for diversity would be to gain the insight that has already been demonstrated from Ian Richards on how if you want to change the complexion and diversity of the Broward County Bench, you simply do it and stop waiting around hoping to be appointed.
Nothing risked, nothing gained. And so easily accomplished as we've seen.

Ian Richards should not be a judge. He does not have the credentials, the experience, the background. Has he ever tried a case? Any jury trial experience? I didn't think so. A judge position is an honorable position that should go to those qualified because of integrity, intelligence, temparament. In the last few years we have gotten rid of a bunch of clowns (Spechler, Seidlin, Moe, Andrews, Zack soon, Korda) we don't need new clowns like Ian richards. Congrats on the substantial pay raise and pension. You should be out in 6 yrs.

You are saying Avalos and Dijols have integrity, intelligence, temparament.
What a joke. You sound like a clown.
I am glad the voters of Broward County took out the trash. They need to do it more often.
  • 1/11/2009 4:13 PM Dejols and Avalos wrote:
Avalos and Dejols both got exactly what they deserve. Both were bad judges with little or no experience that were appointed for the wrong reasons and both had even less knowledge of the law. Broward needs to clean up its act judicially speaking and we still have a long way to go to get good people as replacements.

I only handled civil matters in front of Avalos; she was just mediocre. I would have been impressed if she would have at least worked hard....you could never get an order signed; paperwork would sit on her desk for sometimes 2 months. She should have taken a lesson from Jane Fishman or Ron Rothschild. I was also unimpressed with the fact that she usually started late...didn't any of these judges ever consider starting early?
  • 1/11/2009 5:43 PM working off the gravy train wrote:
No, that really would be a surprise. Few judges act like they should have to work at all. Every day you can see judges leaving their parking lot at 2:00 and 3:00 when they started their morning dockets at 10:00 or so. Avalos was just another one that thought she was too good to work. She'll find out what it's all about now. So will Dejols.

Avalos never knew the word work not even as an attorney. She was as lazy as they came ,jut like her co-workers Berkowitz and Steinberg.PLAY PLAY that is what we pay them for. LETS GO SHOPPING!Is that okay Lee?
