Someone should run against Gates. He is beatable.
Agree - Gates needs opposition. Get him off the bench.
Judge Gates have never granted a motion to suppress, but otherwise he is very fair in sentencing and seems to run his docket fairly without being arrogant and nasty.
The top priority for the defense bar should be Lee Jay Seidman. How many people does he throw in jail a week? How do we let him sit without competition?

Greenhawt Must Go! Someone, anyone please run, I have a cadre of people ready to campaign against her arrogance and lack of judicial fairness. Send her favorites Jan Faust, Chorowski,Sheinberg, Revere, etc. to find other funding sources.
Gates is an excellent judge. I may not always agree with his rulings or sentences, but at least he is consistent and respectful to litigants.
I AGREE! You don't always have to agree with their rulings-that's what appellate courts are for. but, the way these judges conduct themselves on the bench, and off, is what should determine if they get opponents.
dijols is a perfect example. maybe, if he'd been respectful to those appearing before him, he wouldn't have been put out on the unemployment line. i'm sure he wouldn't be very pleased if a sitting judge spoke to him with 1/100th of the arrogance he displayed on a daily basis.
hindsight is 20-20 i guess.

The Dade County Bar Association is hanging a plaque today in the Miami Courthouse at 73 West Flagler apologizing for the history of segregation at the courthouse...
PS. We just checked the Broward the Blog. And they point out that the Broward Courthouse has a statute of a governor who wanted to exile all black americans back to Africa. They named the whole damn county after him. Karma baby.
And they wonder why the lord keeps flooding their courthouse and why yesterday it caught on fire. There was even a hurricane in the last few years that blew out most of their windows. And they just don't get it up there do they?
Now this is just pure speculation mind you, but if an earthquake was ever to strike Florida, just where do you think the fault line would be?
Here's a fun way to occupy your time while waiting in line in the courthouse north of the border: If Broward was apologize for their history of segregation by renaming their county, what should the new name be?

In order of importance for circuit ouster: Cheryl Aleman, Eileen O'Connor, Susan Greenwhawt and Elijah Williams. All easy calls for opposition.
Does he deny the motion and make you waive your appellate rights on a negotiated plea? This is a favorite circuit trick and should be outlawed by the fourth! It's one thing to deny but quite another to rob the client of a fundamental right.

Greenhawt is one of the better judges. She practiced law for many years so she knows what it's like to make a living. She knows the law and has a great temperment. She recuses herself in all cases with Chorowkis and Faust for obvious reasons. Revere does not practice trial she's an appellate attorney. There's plenty of fools on the bench starting with Aramony. Sue Greenhawt isn't one of them. Leave her alone.
As the Broward Judiciary enters a new phase of Carnival, the ones with something to fear will be the most vocal. Isn't that always the way it comes down? I'll bet 4 lose it, possibly to dark horses.
Ross stacked the judiciary with judicial jerks and then played the part of Pimp. Now that he's gone underground it looks like things are changing for the better. It sure seems like allot of people are running these days.

Pick a winner? It's more predictable to pick a loser. I'll bet before its over Kulik has a few more tricks up his sleeve. There seem to be more independent candidates coming out of the woodwork too. Its gonna be open season in 2010.

Satz may not be a racist but the techniques employed on the street are egregious and have a racially disparate impact. The problem is that Satz blindly backs the cops, even the dirty ones, to the hilt. When was the last time they conceded a Motion to Suppress or Motion to Dismiss? When was the last time they conceded anything where they weren't caught with their hand in the cookie jar like Scheinberg? They back up all the lousy antics of the cops and then cram the prisons with offenders who often have had all their rights violated. Look at the treastment Grady got. Basically a free pass for a guy who should be a receptacle in FSP for the next 20 years.

i've won a motion to suppress in Gates. Never had an opportunity to have him sentence a client of mine since my only trial in there was a not guilty.

Greenhawt is a great judge. Any criminal attorney like me that has done domestic violence has been in front of her. She is very fair and tries to make the right decision. What more can you ask for? Who cares about those other attorneys she had a relationship with, we all are entitled to have significant others. give me a break.
