Florida Supreme Court upholds lobbyist gift ban (3/19)

"The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a law enacted in 2005 to curb the influence of lobbyists by banning gifts to lawmakers and requiring them to disclose their pay.

A cadre of lobbyists led by Miami-Dade lobbyist Ron Book and Brevard County's Guy Spearman sued to invalidate the law shortly after it passed the Legislature, arguing it was an affront to their privacy rights and the separation of powers. The three-year legal challenge has bounced between federal and state courts ever since.

The Florida Supreme Court, though, seems to have ended the discussion, writing in Thursday's opinion that "although the constitution does not give the Legislature the exclusive power to discipline lobbyists, it also does not prevent it from doing so." ...

The information showed, for instance, that the more than 2,000 lobbyists in Tallahassee were paid in excess of $116 million to ply their trade with the Legislature last year."

JAAB is ridiculous: why are lobbyists the anti-Christ but defense attorneys glorious heroes? They're both hired-gun advocates. What exactly is the difference? And when FACDL lobbies the legislature for something, is that good or bad?

WOW!! I wish I had been a part of that!!! Thanks for the boost in economic spending...Way to go, Ron!! For myself, I have been out of work going on eight months. As a professional in the hospitality industry, I know I could have made Ron's daughter's wedding extra special. Boost the economy by legalizing all marriages so they can all be as miserable as the rest!!! Divorces, receptions and the court costs boost the economy so go for it! As for me, I'll fore go the paper. One mistake was definitely enough! Happiness is a state of mind. No legal papers are needed, unless beneficial economically. Although I'm not gay, I support their right to be as unhappy in marriage as the rest of us! HA HA!

Is it any wonder why we have the waste in government spending and mismanagement of resources when these creeps are allowed to sell special interests to every legislator who needs to be re-elected? This precise problem is ruining confidence in our state capitol. No wonder Florida is such a mess.

If you have watched any reality TV, you know that producers over exagerate everything. And regardless of your opinion of Ron Book, there is no reason to attack a young couple as they celebrate their love for eachother. Lauren & Kris are lovely people; leave them alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The major problem starts with these corrupt lobbyists in Tallahassee. They should all be barred from doing further business. Most of the problems in state and local governments start with these weasels. Just ask the Broward County Commission.
