It's a satirical line taken from Steve Martin's "The Man With Two Brains" (link above). Ugly, powerful words reduced to nothing. If only it was that simple in real life.
While it's certainly true that racial slurs say more about the speaker than anything else, the words still hurt. For this reason, the commentator is hereby permanently banned from JAABLOG. All of his comments, and any other racially offensive posts, will be deleted.
Racism exists everywhere, and it's much more dangerous in the hands of its more sophisticated purveyors. Poor minorities needlessly arrested or disproportionately sent off to prison with a polite "thank you, sir" is one example. Likewise, a modern, metropolitan county like Broward, boasting some of the worst institutional racism to be found anywhere in the nation, presents a greater crime against humanity than an army of foul-mouthed cranks in cyberspace could perpetrate in a thousand years.
Rest assured, we'll be here as long as Broward County continues to send non-violent African-Americans to prison at nearly twice the rate of our neighbors. Posters who utilize racial slurs, no matter how badly they may have been wronged, won't.
It's just that simple.

Some of the comments about racial stereotypes: Black, Jews, Hispanics, etc. that have been posted are truly disturbing. You wonder when you shake someone's hand what they are truly thinking. So these individuals have had a forum for posting this tripe and you're correct, it's hurtful. One would think that lawyering in this community with its diversity would enlighten those with small minds and the constant flow of people of all backgrounds through the Courthouse doors would bring some civility and at least the brains to keep such remarks buttoned up. Good for you in banning those that purvey hate and its stupidity. This decision is not "public defender crap" these types of comments have no place in 2010, its not 1963. Bill look to your friend Howard Fink and his enforcer Judy Stern if you want to know why the "opportunist" Nichols is running against Rebollo. I hear that Nichols wanted to run against Judge Rodriguez in early February and it was suggested he was looking at the wrong Carlos. It wont happen in March, but I have a feeling when the July campaign reports get filed you will see many contributions come in to Nichols from many of the same contributors as Judge Rodriguez.
If true, Howard had no problem having someone file against another hispanic as long as it wasn't his friend. Smells racist to me.
Anyone else notice how few Latinos work in the PD's office and how none have been "encouraged" to run for Judge. No, Olga doesn't count because she is running as Olga Levine. Howie though his seconds Stern and Kulik are all about the tribe.
The Bar looks really bad on this one. Rumor has it they tried to keep the Gardiner/Scheinberg transcripts along with Backman's efforts who sits on the JQC from becoming public but couldn't. Its like everybody else but them have to play by the rules. These are not the people we want sitting as judges in my opinion. Browarrd County doesn't need any more of this.
