Senior Broward County Traffic Magistrate Rhonda Hollander

We were too lazy to hunt down a copy of the PC Affidavit Friday, but we can tell you that Rhonda Hollander has been arrested on very serious charges that stem from an alleged bizarro incident at the West Satellite Courthouse.

Here's the link to the Clerk's Felony Case Records, and here's background on Hollander from her website.  It's been a little while since a Broward judge or ASA got arrested, so for the time being everyone will have to settle for a traffic magistrate instead.

In other news, check out Bob Norman's reporting on ASA/former RRA attorney Corey Ackerman, suspended by the SAO without pay for "unspecified conduct".  Our own questions regarding Ackerman to SAO personnel last week were met with awkward silence, shrugging shoulders, and nervous looks, which means something weirder than usual has happened once again right under Rip Van Satz's nose ...

Coming soon - SAO's polygraph test ensures good liars!

                                    THANKS MIKE!

Rumor is that the ASA was handling cases as a prosecutor and opened a private law firm at the same time.

I hear the PBA and FOP are very aware of the Hollander matter and are taking it seriousy. I would guess the unions will be asking Weinstien to remove her as Traffic Magistrate. I would guess the Judges will stop feeding her mediations and arbitrations which is how she gets most of her business, especially the Judges up in 12 looking for law enforcement support.

You're mixing up Hollander and Ackerman. Speiser's has no similarity to Hollander.

You guys are up for election next year, would it be wise to keep Rhonda as a magistrate and feeding her arbitrations and mediations after a battery on a LEO. It may not look to good when it comes time for the FOP and PBA interviews for endorsements.

I am very sorry to hear this; maybe it is not as bad as it sounds? maybe she needs a break (being a magistrate is kind of cool but does not pay any bills and 15 years without any issues is not so bad) It would be nice to give her a little support rather than just make fun of her .

More importantly maybe Zeller and Lee can do a little work themselves instead of pawning it off to non-elected magistrates.

No magistrates general, special or traffic are elected. No magistrates have had these types of issue while they were magistrates. Rhonda's incident did not occur while she was presiding it happened while she was lawyering. At less than $50 an hour for a several hundred case docket how are traffic magistrates enriched?

50 an hour is 77,000 a year for a full time position. That's what a GM makes AND taxpayers are already paying Judges 136,000 a year to disappear at lunchtime.

If only one County Judge was dedicated to tickets as the voters are led to believe the taxpayers could save close to 1,000,000 a year.

traffic magistrates get to park in the judhes lot at every courthouse, add up the parking savings over a year that worth the "sacrifice" of $50 an hour.

While everyone is enjoying the ability to kick someone while they are down.

Please remember their are two sides to a story and an arrest. I can tell you that I was arrested FALSELY. And the officers flat out falsify the arrest report. The only thing that caused my charges to be dropped was that I had the entire arrest on recording up to and including where they were discussing knowingly placing false charges on me. What can I say BSO SUCKS!

I am just saying we only have limited facts. I am going to wait for the other sides to come out.

I agree. THO's make $50 an hour on a contract basis (like independent contractors) and really may get only say as little as 10 hours of work a month.

$500 a month which you pay your own taxes on?

A far cry from the path to $77k a year, which would be paid with state benefits and taxes already deducted.

If this is the way this lawyer works for and protects her clients, I'll hire her. And if I were a lawyer, I'd find a way to turn the case around and file a lawsuit against BSO for aggravated assault. I've been in court and seen how the person in cuffs is pushed and shoved about by the officers. Don't the officers have limits on the handling of detainees or can they just shove anyone and hurt them without the officers themselves being in the wrong. Isn't this on or beyond the borderline of abusive. Is this type of handling what we, the taxpayers, are paying for. Wow, getting paid to physically abuse or humiliate someone. That's not how I want my tax dollars spent. Let's hear a bit about the officer's and her story. Perhaps Sheriff Lamberti will spend a few of my tax dollars to check out the mental state and do a psychological profile on the arresting deputy.

I think it is complete BS but I will await the actual facts to bear themselves out.
