BACK FROM THE DEAD

Robert Lockwood is rumored to be running for Clerk of Courts in 2012, against Howard Forman and Beverly Kennedy.  If the name sounds familiar, it's probably because someone named Robert Lockwood served as Clerk of Courts for twenty-three years, passing away from cancer in 2000  while in office.

The new Robert Lockwood is an ASA, and a 2009 graduate  of Thomas M. Cooley Law School.  If it's true, he's obviously banking on the name game to carry him past Forman.  Forman is wildly popular with the condo set, having been both a city and county commissioner, and a state senator before succeeding the original Robert Lockwood.  He'll be tough to beat, despite being blamed in courthouse circles for the slow implementation of technological advances that are already in place in neighboring counties.

A text message to Lockwood has yet to be returned.  For his part, Forman told us earlier today he doesn't care who runs, since "it will be up to the people of Broward County who will be the next Clerk of Courts."

2012 is getting interesting ...

*UPDATE* - Lockwood texted back.  He won't confirm or deny, but did explain he will be free to discuss his future plans after his resignation from the SAO becomes effective on December 30th ...

Wow, this guy must be impressive to have gone to the lowest ranked law school in America and still be one of the few that actually passed a bar exam (first time Mr. Lockwood? - Congrats).

And after 2-years of involvement with the court system, you think you have the qualifications to run one of the largest administrative offices in the State.

Granted, a monkey could probably do as well as the last few guys to hold this office, but then again, a monkey could probably have gotten into a better school than Cooley.

What other 28-year old ASAs are going to run for higher office this year?

Lockwood is a good guy and an honest person. There is no conspiracy with him and the SAO. They would not support one of their own even if a win was guaranteed. If he wins he will show the old cadres who currently run the building and the ass kissers who work for them that the underdog can win. Plus maybe he can get the clerks on some other operating system than DOS. And by the way he is not 28, and not an SAO kiss ass wanna be super lifer. Robert go get them. And if your a defense attorney please go meet the guy. He is one of the good guys.

DUMP HOWARD FORMAN AS CLERK OF THE COURTS. HE HAS DONE NOTHING DURRING HIS ENTIRE TENURE THERE BUT SUCK AT THE PUBLIC TROUGH AND MAKE THE CLERKS OFFICE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE ENTIRE STATE.
HAVE YOU EVER TRIED TO GET ANYTHING FROM THE CLERKS OFFICE??? THEN YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN. IT'S ABSOLUTELY THE WORST AND FORMAN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INCOMPETENCE THAT HAS BEEN EVIDENCED THERE EVERY DAY SINCE HE TOOK OFFICE.
ELECT ROBERT LOCKWOOD AS CLERK OF THE COURTS FOR THE 17TH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT AND DUMP YET ANOTHER DEAD WEIGHT BROWARD POLITICIAN BACK INTO THE REAL WORLD.
VOTE NO TO RETAIN FORMAN. VOTE FOR CHANGE. VOTE LOCKWOOD.

As for law schools...unless the poster attended an Ivy League school, Stanford, Duke and a few others, it probably doesn't matter for purposes of practicing law where one matriculated from.
Now, I will support anyone who can bring our Broward system into modernity.
Unfortunately, which few exceptions and with all of the technology available it seems as though this clerk's office is about the same as when I began practicing here 31 years ago.

howard and judy stern are behind mancini against satz, trying to get mancini in the dem primary. Stern, Forman and Formans Asst Siple(current Pines COmmish) are very close. Satz sees it as an eye for an eye, Dem primaries for all.

I would guess Stern will have a meeting with Mr. Lockwood by the end of next week offering to help him run for Judge. Watch out Julio. Looks like the name game will bite you again.

If Forman has it in for Satz I will be supporting him. Forman may be outdated, but his antiquated viewpoints don't result in double standards if justice for minority offenders like Satz's do. For crying out loud, Satz doesn't even believe DWB exists. There are so many real problems here and Satz doesn't have a clue.

With what Forman hasn't done to improve the clerk's office in Broward County, you could write volumes and volumes. Other Clerk's Offices around the state make Broward's Clerk's Office look like it fell off the truck in 1957! Forman's done nothin but play the condos and nothing else. I hope Lockwwod cleans his clock but good. Between the bad judges and a clerk that walks around like he's a celebrity, Broward County looks pretty stupid. It's time to vote all these slackers out of office and bring some real progress in. Only in Broward!

As far as I'm concerned every seventy year old politician needs to make way for someone who actually cares more for Broward's future instead of being worried more about having to do something besides shuffleboard or getting viagra prescriptions renewed. The old guard needs to get its greedy mitts off both the throttles of power and the public tit and let new leaders like Lockwood address the real needs of our modern community.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Cooley is for students who can survive the rigorous academic scheduled placed on them. It is the only law school that only allows 30 elective credits (requiring 60 mandatory classes out of 90 credits to be chosen for you). What do you call someone who passes the bar from Harvard? A Lawyer. What do you call someone who passes the bar from Cooley? A Lawyer.
I would hire anyone from Cooley Law school any day. They are hard workers.
