FRIDAY NOTES
Movement! - Lisa Trachman's resignation has set off a game of musical chairs. It's early yet, and nothing has been decided, but here's what we're hearing: Gary Cowart replaces Trachman, to garner civil experience before retiring; Stacy Ross replaces Lenny Feiner in civil, unless another county judge with greater experience opts for the division; John Fry headed north, unless Veteran's Court keeps him at Central; Mardi Levey Cohen headed downtown, to fill one of the vacated criminal divisions; Jane Fishman possibly coming to Fort Lauderdale too, to further her work in dependency; election and appointment winners to fill remaining empty criminal slots, including the one out west being vacated by Fred Berman's retirement ...
Lost in the mail - our invitation to this Saturday's "39 + 11" birthday party for Gardiner still hasn't arrived, but we'll wish her a happy fiftieth anyway. We'll also be calling the Florida Bar, to see why the Gardiner and Scheinberg prosecutions are also rapidly approaching their fiftieth, with little to no activity as far as anyone can tell ...
Porth v. Nichols - no surprises here, but Ari Porth and Bob Nichols have officially filed for the retiring Richard Eade's seat. As far as the campaign rumor mill, Debbie Steinsaltz may be dropping out, while Mickey Rocque and Sam Lopez may be filing soon ...
Congrats Bo & Jerry! - click here for the invitation to this Thursday's Harry Gulkin Award Dinner, honoring Bo Hitchcock and Jerry Cunningham. You've been going to their Law Day parties for decades, so plan on attending to honor two of the nicest and most effective guys to ever grace the courthouse.
Coming Soon - Terry Moons, Hero; Courthouse Appreciation Day date; JAABLOG Judicial Poll.

Now Baby Ross heads for the woods hoping to garner some real support $$$ before she gets opposition. Funny how it works in Broward.

What happened to Steinsaltz? She's been given her marching orders from the head condo-commando for running against a sitting judge in the last election or what?

Probably can't raise enough to make a viable candidate. Nobody is giving much.

Go Bo and Jerry--you've been gettin drunk and driving after attending their Law Day parties for years--it's called client development and judicial cooing. Jerry is one of the lousiest lawyers tha ever walked the planet regartdless how "nice." Who else promotes illegal sentences for his clients and then let's scott raft protect him on 3.85 appeals in collusion with carney and gardiner and all the judges she was involved with int he 4th. slime is slime, even if it's "nice" slime and bo backs him up because he's only as good as he "feels" like being when he feels like it--but he has such a "nice" collection of placques on his wall. go suck some more at the special pd wheel jerry and then you and satz can discuss dispositions to sell out you clients becaue he'll send in the clown, raft, to protect you AND the judge rafy MAY alloe you to actually get into court to plead a case v. you.

Does Daddy's little girl want some resume action for a promotion to Circuit??

Judge, you are a gentleman and a role model. Even when your sentencings or rulings are disagreed with by an attorney, you professionally take the time to explain your analysis. You always treat everyone before you with respect and you display great accomodation skills in setting hearings or granting continuances so justice can be done. I join many others in wishing you luck although you will not neec it because of the person you are.

Only 50?
Geez, it looks like she aged more than that in the last year alone.

Most of us were to busy oogling Breslaw's hot wife (now ex) to notice that SAM LOPEZ was standing right next to him at all the events. I'm sure Mary Robinson noticed

Its a shame to see good efficient Judges, like Cowart and Fry, leave criminal where they are appreciated by both sides of the isle. I hope Levey is willing to replace big shoes. Good luck, and let the Judicial Rotation begin under the new reign of the Cheif Judge

POTHOLE PORTH FOR JUDGE WHAT A FREAKING JOKE
Reply to this
Can't say Porth after collecting two checks for how long, will ever make a good judge. But, with what we've got now he'll just be one more additional disappointment. These turkeys never stop sucking at the public trough unless it's to run for another office. Probably cost tax payers less if he gets it but I wouldn't want to debate Nichols.

If it wasn't for all the hubris they would be serving humble pie at the party.

Scherer has a hand in this one for sure. Lisa Trachman was a guest at his daughter's backyard wedding last month. Trachman's spot going to little Miss Congeniality

Except that's a lateral move for Stacy. Good thing your not a Judge.

Ross will have to do a better job in civil than she has in criminal.

Sorry to see Cowart leaving County. He is a role model judge and it's a shame he didn't train ALL those on the bench. What a pleasure to walk intohis courtroom He is courteous, addresses EVERY attorney that comes into his courtroom by name, and if he doesn't know it, he finds out who he or she is. His State and PD show him respect because he treats them the same. Even when he seems to be getting a little annoyed with someone, he does it with class.
Can't believe Mardi Ann LeveyCohenJinglehimerschmidtwhineyjudge is going to be in the main courthouse. Thought those in the helm had the smarts by putting her in satelliteville when she got elected. Main is going to chew her up and spit her out.
Lord I hope I don't have to appear in front of her - I might end up behind bars....

VOTE LIz Mercer Scherer FOR JUDGE

Liz Mercer Scherer has a new name. She was married again in December. Husband number 2 is a homicide detective in Hollywood. She finally got her cop/man. But she'll keep her Scherer name- she's not dumb.

About the worst one is Diaz. Maybe if he were smarter they'd move him to civil instead of Cowart. All judges should be rotated like they do in other circuits, not just the ones they move because of petty local judicial politics.

Former Broward County Court Judge Julio Gonzalez was flotsam left from the collapse of the Scott Rothstein’s law firm.
Gonzalez has now landed with another Rothstein veteran Marc Nurik.
The Law Offices of Marc Nurik announced Thursday that Gonzalez would be Of Counsel to the new Las Olas Boulevard criminal defense firm. One of Nurik’s clients is his former boss, Rothstein.
Gonzalez will practice criminal defense and also represent judicial officials accused of ethics and criminal investigations a new growth industry in Broward.
He was one of three Hispanic judges — Catalina Avalos and Pedro Dijols were the other two beaten by challengers in 2008. Gonzalez lost to civil attorney Ellen Feld by 61-39 percent.
Gonzalez went to work at Rothstein, Rosenfeldt and Adler after his defeat.

Dear "Whattttt" @ 10:30pm:
I know that you are trying to stir the pot on Julio, but I don't get it. Where are you going with these posts? Are you saying that Julio is dishonest or unethical?
Please let us all know why your trying to bash him. It is unclear at this point.
Thanks.

Julio continues to make very poor decisions. First he goes to work for ponzi scammer Scott Rothstein, second he goes to work for former RRA partner Nurik and now he makes another poor decision in hiring a lackey who is known to run candidates against incumbents as his politico guidance counselor.....poor Julio, poor choices....not the kind of decision maker needed on the bench.

Who would have the most to say about him? I like Julio and wish he was still a Judge. He rocks. I heard he is getting money from campaign contributions and 2 others jumping into his race.
