1.) You won't have Dennis McHugh to kick around anymore. After forty years, Dennis has finally had enough. Everyone is urged to swing by Maguires this Friday, August 24th, starting at 5:30 PM to say goodbye. If you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the ghost of Warner Olds, the Public Defender when Dennis started way back in 1973; 2.) Ed Hoeg and Katie McHugh (no relation), a day or two after McHugh won the election. Rumor has it Katie will be taking over for Stacy Ross, who's taking cover in civil before facing reelection in 2014. As for Hoeg, he had an all male jury laughing their way to a not guilty verdict today in The Battle Of The Courthouse Treatment Specialists, on behalf of client Myles Schlam. Paul Pellinger, alleged victim of a Schlam shove on the tenth floor of the courthouse, didn't stand a chance. He was characterized by Hoeg as "a school girl" pushing "a vanity prosecution" with non-existent injuries not requiring "a trip to the school nurse". Courthouse cafe employee 3.) Moses Arden also got to partake in the fun, called as a witness by the SAO. A good time was had by all, except for the taxpayers, who paid the bill for a two day total waste of time; 4.) Blue Light Special - the SAO dropped all felony charges against bondsman Richard Stein a couple of weeks ago, letting him plea to a misdemeanor charge of Unlawful Use Of Blue Lights. He got a withhold and two months of probation, and undoubtedly a correspondingly major break on his bondsman's license. Amazing lawyering by Todd Onore, considering the awful sworn allegations contained in the PC Affidavit.
